Traveller Reprint

Been thinking about picking up FFE 0000, the reprint of books 1-3, but I'm concerned about the format it comes it. I'd bought the Book 0-8 reprint expecting to get newly minted copies of the original books (in LBB format, or at least the same size), and ended up getting something much wider than that due to it being laid out with each page of the LBB being one column on a two column page. I'd even thought of rebinding it to fit the dimensions I'd wanted, but with the way it was printed it just wouldn't work (naturally).

Does anyone know what the formatting is like on FFE0000?

Is it just one LBB page to a side?

Hmmm...

Is this also available thru FFE or just here? How is the binding?

Indeed it is.

The binding is fine. Mine is anyway. Clean, tight, no margin issues. Not sure what else to say. It's a very nice book. The size is just too convenient ;) I keep misplacing it since I take it everywhere :D

Dragon Master, I've been trying to find mine to answer your question but I think it's hiding in some baggage or under a pile of notes I haven't tipped over yet. I'm pretty sure aramis has the size correct, I was just hoping to confirm.

No, it's an 8.5x11 book.

Sorry S4, no, the one Dragon Master is looking at is smaller than 8.5 x 11. I think it is digest size (or close to) as aramis says. The BFBs (Big Floppy Books) are 8.5 x 11 but laid out the long way. Makes them tough to shelve*, beyond that I like them fine :)

* I keep thinking someday when I'm bored I'm gonna make me a hard cardboard sleeve for each, like a slip case, so they can sit on a shelf the regular way without falling down and show only the page edges. And so I know what's in each one, a nice Classic spine treatment :) (...one of these days ;) )

Ah, right, the formatting question. It's laid out very much like the LBBs but cleaner (iirc, it's been missing a while, I hope I didn't leave it behind somewhere on my trips...)

OK, it was bugging me, I went hunting...

...and eventually found it :) Always the last place you look ;)

So...

The size is 5.5" by 8.5" and it's a softcover.

The binding is Perfect Bound and mine is holding up quite well (a few years old now, don't recall exactly how many, and well read). No spine cracking (but that's more a careful usage issue I suspect), no lose pages, no glue issues.

The interior layout starts with some background and history, then a short Traveller story by Martin J. Dougherty, Jr. (a pretty good read too).

Then it's into the meat and potatos. LBB1-3, complete and as originally laid out. It's the LBBs in one cover basically. Somehow they look cleaner, fresher, newer, to me. But they are just like the LBBs. Same type, same layout, identical. Maybe it's the cover that always makes me start from a "ooh, shiney!" outlook and it carries over to the interior :)

Does that answer all your questions Dragon Master?

For some reason FFE sent me one of these books for free along with the CT and JTAS CD's I ordered last summer. Its a great little book, good binding and bright pages that are easy to read and reference quickly.

In fact I tend to use it more than the binders full of the pages I printed off from the CD's when I'm running or playing the game.

Thanks for the info. ;)
Dammit, now I want one too! :o

Yeah, I got the BFB, and the kooky, wobbly formatting is hard to deal with. (Sorry, Marc!)
Perhaps we should suggest to FFE that they redo the 0-8 books in the same 5.5 x 8.5 format. :D

It'd look like a paperback Lord of the Rings, but it's doable. A reprint reprint? :)

Not sure the market would be there, though, everybody's bought the long book now.

And yes, I know you were joking. :)
