Traveller Starships in 3ds

Drakon

SOC-14 1K
I recently discovered a program called "Celestia" It's a "space simulator that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions." Because of the way it was built, you can add stars, galaxies, planets, asteroids, and spaceships. So, I am looking for a source of Traveller spacecraft in 3ds format to add in Celestia, to make it more Travellery.

Anybody got some? Looking mostly for Scouts, Seekers, Beowulf, Empress Marava, Gazelle. While the software is designed for more scientific applications, there are a lot of add ons representing Star Trek, Star Wars, and other science fiction works have already been created. I have started working on a Firefly addon. Traveller add on would be cool.

I once made a Suleiman Scout specifically for Celestia. It's not hosted anywhere. I'll have to dig it out. Actually, saying that, Mr Boulton had a copy hosted somewhere, I think. Pehaps he can post a link when he's not off offending the rest of the forum with his heretic ways.

I've got a fat trader I've been working on somewhat slowly in blender that I could probably convert to .3ds. PM me if you would like me to. (It's not the greatest, and I keep planning to work on it some, but it's mostly got the exterior down fine.)

Can you point me in the right direction of where I might be able to download/purchase this Celestia? I think I've seen it before, very curious to see what I might be able to do with it myself.

A couple of years ago someone did all the Spinward Marches stars for Celestia (although they were all on a plain which could look odd). I made a simple program to build systems. Here are some results:

The cost can't be beat, it's free. Well within my budget. They created a website repository for add ons at http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/

The Sulieman looks Fantastic! And I notice that the co-pilot is a Varg. Still need to learn out to orient the ship properly.

The Beowulf textures are not working right in Celestia. All I am getting is a black ship. In space, its the ultimate stealth vehicle. But that isn't going to work. I am sure it's not the artists fault, I screwed up in the installation.

Yeah, the characters are Tiny and Vargr, two characters from My Traveller Universe and the Suleiman is real-time chopdown from my high-res render mesh on my website.

Vargr isn't actually called Vargr, I just haven't named him yet :)

I am sure it IS the artists fault ;) I exported them from Carrara, so it is probably a cross-platform problem. I'll see what I can do about it.

By the way Anders did a magnificent job of modelling the 2320 universe, see the thread:

Yes he did. I wonder how he got the trade routes drawn in. I hope he did not have to use separate 3ds objects. I am currently without a 3d graphics package. Maybe I can dig up my ancient version of Lightwave....
