Universe Install

Question for anyone out there familiar with Traveller Universe:

Has anyone had any luck installing the program on XP SP2? The program installs just fine, but I am having some MDAC conflicts (at least that is what I think is what is going on).

I guess what I need to know is this:

-Has anyone been able to install this on XP SP2?
-What version of MDAC does this expect?

Thanks,
Jim

I have installed and finally got working Traveller Universe on my Windows 2000 Pro machine. I found it refused to work until I installed all the newest updates from Microsoft. Prior to that it would work once and then crash every time you tried to use it.

Has anyone else had this problem (I've been unable to reproduce it)?

In the absence of knowing what went wrong here all I can suggest is (a) make sure you are up todate with all patches from the Windows Update site, (b) check MDAC with ComponentChecker (free on MS website), (c) try downloading and reinstalling MDAC, and (d) try uninstalling and re-installing the ODBC drivers (on the CD).

(I'm assuming that your machine meets the listed minimum spec and you've read the readme.txt file that's on the CD.)

I recently reinstalled to O/S on my machine, and after all patches were applied then installed Universe. It works fine. MDAC version is reported by CC as "MDAC 2.8 SP1 ON WINDOWS XP SP2".

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It is looking like my MDAC is pretty out of whack, so I am going to fix it and try again. Hopefully this will do the trick!!

(Off-topic, yes, but I can't resist anymore...)

To install universe, realize that the universe is already installed and do NOTHING now.

To uninstall universe, please press the RED button now [OPTION UNAVAILABLE].

To reset universe, please press the BLUE button now.
