The Type 8 is a fighter design developed and used by the infamous vargr corsair band, The “Kvagrk Pack”. The Kvagrk ply the trade routes on the outer rim of the Solomani Sphere, having great success due to their resourcefulness and high degree of mobility. The Type 8 is a sleek, relatively inexpensive, and effective tool of organized piracy.
The cylindrical airframe hull has improved streamlining for breathtaking 6G maneuvering, making it a craft for experienced fighter pilots who enjoy its simple elegance in flight.
The Type 8 has a Model 1 computer installed just ahead of the crew compartment for general flight assist operations. The two seat (pilot front couch, gunner back couch) crew compartment is in an unusual aft position and can be jettisoned by means of explosive separation bolts in the event that the agile fighter sustains combat damage. Ejecting in this manner is a harrowing experience to say the least, but has a high survivability rate.
The Type 8 is armed with twin pulse lasers, located on hardpoints at the bowing point of its distinctive “gull” wing design. The wings are foldable for easy (or clandestine) storage in larger vessels.
The typical deployment of these fighters by the Kvagrk takes many forms, and the versatility of the Type 8 fits the roles nicely. For example, several of the fighters can be deployed by means of a large vessel to a stationary point in a system, such as a planetoid belt or gas giant, where they can make hit and run attacks on ships entering the system, softening them up for the main pirate force.
This tactic makes them very effective in wearing down a targeted ship’s fighting ability, making them ripe for the plucking.
