Vargr Vacc Suits or Battledress - where the heck does the tail go?

I have looked through all of my Vargr references, and the only brief mention I can find is in GT: Aliens 1, which is only a sort of back handed reference stating that Vargr can use most human gear, but will find human boots and pants very uncomfortable, although the pants can be fixed w a quick snip to make an opening for the tail. Then it adds "such impromptu tailoring is not a good idea for a vacc suit or other sealed outfit" - no duh! But even though the book is about Vargr, it says nothing about how the tail problem is solved in vacc suits or other sealed clothing actually made for Vargr.

Any ideas?

I would assume a bum bag or similar bulge would be the simplest "fix"

I'd say there are Vargr Vacc Suites and that takes care of that.

A Vargr needing a Vacc Suite in Human space would need a good tailor? A Human buying a Vacc Suite in Vargr space would just have a pocket he didn't need.

My guess is that this is something Marc never felt overwhelmingly compelled to go into at great length. :D

I wonder if Vargr who spend a lot of time in skin-tights would use a depilatory below the neck?

Yeah, I guess I could just ignore it like when I played Vargr in the past, but I just made a new character to play for the first time in many years, and I'm trying to get into my role. :)

tails

Canines can put their tails between their legs when needed. If larger it might even fit down a leg.

I think the Vargr would inconveniently put it between their legs when trying a humaniti suit. The again I can see giving a dexterity minus to a vargr in that position.

I agree, but most poor Vargr cannot afford a suite, and are forced to buy a suit instead. ;)

The tail is an appendage, used for balance among other things. Just like any appendage, if cut off, the owner will adapt. It would have its own flexible sleeve, allowing some protection and freedom of movement.

According to the GT Vargr book, that causes cramping and a -1 DX. Same for wearing human boots.

I haven't seen any mention in the GDW CT Vargr stuff.

I have the GT book and will have to look at it but as i mentioned. a negative applied to DX. So, saying that how do they fit. They tuck their tails or put it down a leg. Both are not not comfortable. :eek:o:

In the case of tail tucking also a charisma hit! Probably another 1-2 since its a sign of fear or submission.

There's pics of Vargr in Vacc Suits from T5. It doesn't look like there's a special "leg" for the tail from those two illos.

I wonder if the tail is confined down one of the legs.

The Vargr in one of my campaigns had suits with hollow tentacles (as far as the rules were concerned)... Naturally one of them thought to install a contact stunner at the end.

What to do with the tail is not only a problem with Vargr in Traveller. When I looked at furry art (I was just checking to see what the hub-bub about furries was all about ), clothing to accommodate tails is non-existent. Tails are added onto the outside of clothing, with not even a hint of there being openings for the tail (if there was clothing at all ).

I would think that kilts would be very 'bipedal sophont with a tail' friendly...

In any case, for a vargr to use human vacc suits they must change the helmets, as the tail problem is quite minor when compared with the snout problema in human helmets...

Not if someone produces a 1 size fits all helmet. The classic big bubble.

As the vargr are depicted in most pictures I've seen from them (more like a husky or a wolf than a bulldog, so to say), the snout is too long for even this kind of boubble helmet. A boubble helmet big enough to fit them will be too big and quite uncomfortable for men.

Maybe they no longer have tails and it is just a fashion thing. Magnetically attached to the clothing? :file_21:

From MT:V&V, page 40:

A flaring, brushy tail and a covering of body fur help to make us an attractive and dictinctive race.

(emphasis is mine)

It seems the tail is not magnetically attached to the clothing, sorry (but it was a good explanation, I must admit).

Remember, humans wear wigs. I'm sure that there are "races" of Vargr just as there are races of humans.

Vargr beauty parlors for the females (for that Bushy Tail look) :D
