Weapon for gurps traveller?

Ok gurps traveller question here, true. Maybe it should've gone into the GT forum, but given that that forum gets less use than a condom machine in a convent (Loosen up already, it's called a JOKE.) I opted to ask here in hopes of getting a reply.

Basically I see there's a weapon in gurps Infinite worlds that is called the "Porpetine" that is a powerful, mid range electromagentic rifle/shotgun/grenade launcher, depending on what you load it with.

If you're familiar with the Porp from IW and with traveller, I have a question for you: Would this beast fit in with a traveller game? There are fairly few SF weapons for gurps 4e yet and as such I'd like to add the porpentine to a GT game, I wanted to see if anyone thought it was 'unbalancing' or 'not canonical" since I do try to keep things fair and balanced, unlike the fox nutz channel.

As I see it, it should fit into any game where long range gauss weapons are canon since it's just a 20mm slow firing gauss weapon with fairly limited range, but it does fire a variety of rounds, from a standard slug that'll knock you flat in one shot to a 100 fletchette hive round that'll turn an unarmored man to hamburger to a couple explosive rounds, one of which is a SCAP that could take out a medium vehicle or power armor.

Seems fair to me, I just wanted another grognard's opinion.

Maybe there'd be more GURPS posts in the GURPS forum IF GURPS topics were posted in the GURPS forum :rolleyes: The replies might even be by GURPS users :eek: Whata concept. When there's a specific forum for a post as specific as yours have been lately why aren't you using it rather than complaining that it doesn't get used? :confused:

Plenty loose here and I still call that "joke" in poor taste

Hardly surprised though.

Well, he could post on the SJG forums, but I guess that's not an option for him...

Not with the arrogant, hypocritical scum they have for mods there.

Asides from the mods some of the users are pretty unbearable. I mean, one of the main traveller users is a guy with this klingon dork avatar and name "qoltar" who is just such a sychophantic toady he makes me physically ill. Plus he posts like 13 times a day, infests virtually all threads and is a heavy traveller poster, I'd hate for that toad to reply to my messages.

I sockpuppeted back on those forums after my last unjust banning, but eventually got so disgusted with the mods and posters, and eventually jackson himself, I withdrew in utter disgust.

I thought that was you - you're that guy who goes into a frothing rage at the mention of Andrew Hackard aren't you?

"The sig stays, it's a public service message reminding people of the dangers certain groups pose to personal liberty."

The forum is totally non-political and thus political and religious issues from the RW are not suitable subjects for discussion.

Think of it as a "no trainers" kind of thing.

So back to GURPS.

I see no reason not to use the "porp" in Traveller. If you feel it will unbalance the game or someone will hit you with the "non-canon" accusations then nerf it.

Make it ridiculously expensive, incredibly rare or a one off bespoke weapon designed by an alien gunsmith for a hiver physiology. Whatever works for you.

Ah, another graduate of Andy Hackard's "How to mod like a Joseph Stalin school"

Hey, go for it. Take your best shot.

</font>
Hey the sig is gone. Don't tell me you felt compassion and pity for this fool Andrew and only killed his sig? I think he's had more than enough friendly suggestions and outright demands, and ignored or abused the offerers of same. He wants to get the boot so badly I say oblige him.

Well the sig's away so I guess you're happy to comply. incidentally we appear to have a zero tolerance moratorium on political sig lines and we have cut all politics out of the site. There are plenty of other places where you can vent this urge if you so desire.

As far as Andrew Boulton goes he is the epitome of moderation (pun intended) with regards to dealing with trouble here. other are a lot less tolerant.

Nah, he'd never voluntarily ditch his sig BR, it's not in his nature. Witness his attitude in the reply just above. I'm sure Andrew just couldn't bring himself to boot him without trying less drastic measures first. This isn't his first identity in trouble on this board if I'm not mistaken, and if right he is one of the few to get booted in the past.

</font>
Andrew is just doing his duty, if he refused to deal with you he would not be a good moderator and would surely have to resign his post.

I am not sure what your problems were on the SJG site but here no political or religious discussion is allowed, perhaps it was different there and maybe your views were censured while others were not, if so that will not be a problem here thanks to the policy which bars all political speech.

In my opinion this isn't infringing on your freedom of speech, the site is a privately owned commercial enterprise not Speaker's Corner.

So ummm... Where can I get one of those?

</font>
And that nails my suspicions - ye gods man, could you be any more transparent? If I mention Andrew Hackard, will you explode?

So how's it going, J.C.D.? If I recall you also got the boot from here due to a dodgy sig too (IIRC something about how "SJG forums would be great if not for the crap moderators"?). Or is your name Seanr451? Or the Sockpuppet guy from the SJG forums? Or maybe even Roger Smith, Negotiator (the jury's out on that one)? Or is it all of the above?

I hope our Andrew did take his best shot...

The removal of political content from this site is a wise one, and I support it. I prefer to live with, even if it may be an illusion, that we all share the same common bond of Traveller, and therefore have a common bond in spite of real world views.

Also, not only is Mr. Boulton a good and fair moderator, he's a pretty nice fellow to boot. And a long time contributor to the quality of COti. Pissing him off just makes it seem like you want to do it for fun.

I urge you, Antichrist, check your petty and inconsequential dissatisfactions at the door, as we have all agreed to do in the name of civility.
I promise you'll find a lot more in common with the members here if a certain measure of restraint is maintained.

GURPS Ultra-Tech (3e) offers the Electromag Grenade Launcher, which is similar to our modern day ones. 5 Shots, recoilless. It can also be set to fire subsonic at 1/4th range.

I'd say electromag weapons are fine in Traveller.

GURPS also offers "gyrocs" which I'd allow in a Traveller setting (including those nasty Viper rounds).
