Copyright these days is automatic. When I post original material that I have written the copyright is automatic and implicit. No specific notice has to be give under law.

Unless a document specifically disclaims that it is NOT under copyright, and thus public domain, you had best treat it as if it were under copyright.

A word document downloaded from a web site is not copyright unless it specifically says as much. What is more it is hardly a secret.
