What happened to the other 'Emperors'?

The idea of someone compiling all the hints is a great one. In fact, it'llprobably save me from having to write the book (!).

Subject of course to where I was wrong, self-contradictory or particularly insane that day, yes, please do it. Just make sure I get to see the result... I'm fascinated to see just how much I've given away.

From memory, it is very nearly possible for J6 ships to cross the Rift directly from the Regency to very near Strephon's old territory. I think it only needs about one or two calibration points to fill the gaps.

Given that Regency Sourcebook suggests that the Regency was fighting Vampire fleets trying to cross the Rift that way, it is quite conceivable that the odd patrol might have been sent out to see if anything was coming.

When I was mucking about with RSB, I considered running a game based on a covert Regency expedition aimed at building a bridgehead on the other side of the Rift. One of the subordinate goals of this expedition would have been to see what had happened to Strephon.

What I am suggesting, then, is that it is at least conceivable that the Regency might have encountered whatever was left of Strephon's faction fairly early on. This contact might well have been initially covert, with only the expansion out into Corridor being publically admitted.

Just a thought.

But what I really want to know is: what happened to the Vargr? There is a hint in RSB that some Vargr societies may have been relatively successful in adapting to the presence of Virus. I think this could be quite interesting.

My personal take on this was that Virus would have infected at least some Utovogh entertainment systems. This could have resulted in AIs that looked like charismatic Vargr, sounded like charismatic Vargr, and smelt like charismatic Vargr. In time, some of them might have become socialised to act like charismatic Vargr.

This allows you to create AIs that do interesting things like thinking that they are well-known Vargr figures like Oekhsos, or Brzk. This adequately deals with the requirement that all Viruses are in some sense mad: after all, what do you call a computer that thinks it's a dead dog?

And of course, then you have AIs that start forming packs, and so on...

Oh yes, and then there is Sabmiqys!

What fun! I'm jealous that I'm not going to be writing all this wonderful silliness. :(

Your memory serves you correctly: it's more than possible. The Arrival Vengeance shot Reft Sector from Gushemege at the tail end of her mission in 1126 and she's J5. I don't remember the coordinates of the rogue planet they used as a calibration point, but that was the only one: the rest of the stops were just deep systems. I agree with you about the probability of the Regency doing a reconaissance through to Gushemege. Setting up observation posts in Strephon's former stronghold would give them a real edge in evaluating the former Imperial interior. Given MJD's recent revelations, the scouts should either find the descendants of Strephon's faction waiting with coffee and cinnamon buns, or at least a trail of crumbs leading them to their Diasporan operations. Likewise, the Regency could use the opportunity to probe the re-established Ziru Sirka's flank (assuming they know about them by that point.)

The truth is now out. The 4th Imperium is largely founded and based upon the Usdiki Faciton (or the Usdkiki Peacemakers as they become known).

They have partial Virus resiastance and knowledge of Jumpstart. These are powerrful tools, though not enough on their own.
Verrrrrrry Interesting.

I always wondered what happened to Strephon. I thought that maybe he went "down with the ship." And since GDW folded before we ever found out his fate, one had to guess that maybe that was true.

So is Michael Koehne involved at all in the development of Usdiki in 1248? His work appears in Galactic. Or, are you guys releasing your own interpretation of Usdiki and Gushemege sector?

I daresay that it's a good one. :

Utovogh infection seemed like an eventuality to me too. I'd hoped to develop something along those lines at some point, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I envisioned this happening to those sods in Windhorn and Meshan sectors.

I wrote up Tuglikki & Provence sectors as being virtual wastelands, the karmic result of corsair greed and avarice from their ransacking of Corridor and Vland sectors. I did throw in a couple of PE's that showed some kind of progress. And of course Lair had to be one of those.

The Sabmiqys! Now there's a story I'd be interested in reading.

Me and my big mouth...

A dump of all threads on just the TNE board that MJD posted in is 1.4mb of text  Next comes finding just what MJD said and puting it into somekind of semi-coherent framework.

I'll probably have it done over the weekend, assuming I don't spend too much time test firing the FAL I just finished building out at the rifle range in the morning ... Nothing puts me in the mood for Traveller better than 7.62x51mm slug throwers ...
