What kinds of taxes do you use IYTU?

Depends. There is one starport per System that is Imperial space (like IRL Embassies) where only Imperial rules apply. And from a quick look throug G:T Spaceports, there are only the base fees that are centrally regulated.

The Nobles are going to love such an arrangement: that way, they could set up their government to collect most of its taxes (both for local use AND imperial taxes) from the commoners - that is, the working class, the middle-class and the non-megacorp companies under their rule, while their fiefs and megacorporate investments could go virtually untaxed.

This system has the benefit of allowing for corruption and fraud so one can re-use all the old "Robin Hood" storylines.
I like the Proto-Traveller-styel semi-dark Imperium feel of this

IMTU, There are no taxes as such on traders. There may be fees for things that a local government provides - like an air usage fee for a planet with a controlled environment provided by the local government. These would not apply within the starport proper, but if you decide to leave that area, you would be expected to buy your air tag or whatever it is called. There might be taxes included in those fees. I you purchased an item away from the starport, there may be sales taxes included in the price, but I just include that in the price quoted so as to reduce the paperwork hassles. Of course something bought on the black market would not be taxed. Any legal avenue of purchasing something is subject to local taxation.

IMTneTU in the Wilds.. taxes are paid on planetary folk; travellers, free Traders, Guild ships pay fees. Planets with C+ class ports, with low and moderate populations try not to soak the interstellar folk too much, becuase then the price of shipping gets passed onto them.

I have however, one High pop world, TL-8, C-class world in our region of our TNE 1210 campaign that the Guild calls "home", and the local govt. there does its best to soak with incrementalism fees everyone not of the Guild with everything from fees for scoop diving (using a natural resource!), refining fuel (protect our insystem refining scoop-diver's gild!), and taking off without selling with import & export tariffs (sell your salvaged relic tech here, or pay to carry it off!), to fees for brokering your own cargo (Use our brokers, or pay to sell it yourself if you think you'll get a better price).

All of these system fines are naturally enforced by the home system's impressively large, missile doctrine heavy non-jump system defense force, SPA security Customs folk, and Orbital Station bound Star Marines.

Prior to MTneTU, taxes weren't something most of the players worried about. Window dressing. Only those with shares in megacorps, properties, and planetary assets had to worry about that, and most of our players were worried about making the next repair bill, keeping the ship aloft, and out of the hands of the creditors.

Now..a few of my players have managed to parlay their pre-1117 cash wealth into current local currencies, and are banking on various worlds they've passed through..On April 15th next game year (1211), we'll see how they pay those local govt.s local income taxes!
;)

IMTU taxes are paid, generally speaking, in stacked bars of purest handwavium.

When someone runs afoul of customs (failing a Law Level roll), I generally assign some fairly swingeing fines, fees and tariffs; depending on the nature of the cargo/contraband I'll declare a good chunk of the fines to be unpaid taxes on the cargo in lieu of or in addition to any other fines. But my general goal is to get past that stuff and get on to the adventures...

I mean, I have enough taxation adventures every spring to last me the whole year through, I really don't need it in my RPGs...
