What rolling method for pc generation do you use?

The standard D20 rolling method is 4d6, drop the lowest, and arrange to taste. This seems a bit too high powered for Traveller IMO. I'm thinking of going with 3d6 arranged to taste instead. What is everyone else doing?

Quite honestly it depends on the flavor of the campaign one is trying to create.
I have my players roll 3d6 in order of the stats. (the REAL D20 standard). In otherwords, STR, DEX, CON, INT, EDU WIS, CHA, SOC and PSI in that order! Not only does this create a "grittier" feel but gives true randomness to the characters. Both of which suit my style of refereeing (is that a real word?)

However, the "4d6 drop the lowest" rule is okay, too. In T20, higher stats are just a poor substitute for experience and become almost insignificant after a while. Higher stats do, however, give the players somewhat of an "edge". That's great if you are creating a "cinematic" feel in your campaign.

Bottomline: Create the feel that you are going for, have fun and don't get spun around the axle about what stat roll system that you are going to use.

Another good option would be to use a modified standard array. Give each player scores of 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 10, 9, 8 to assign to their stats. This allows the pc's to start out the same and is faster than rolling.

2d6, arrange as desired, add a total of 4 more points where desired.
Actually, this wouldn't be too bad if you added 4 to each roll. 2d6+4 would give you a nice spread of 6-16 with an average of 11.
well the intent is to roll average stats, give the player a chance to set up the character he wants, then provide some ability to fix any excessively low stat. ct or t20 or whatever, the idea is the same.

After rolling up a few pc's, I think I'll go with 3d6 in order but count 1's as 3's. This gives a spread of 6-18 and weights the scores heavily to average. Here's a few that I rolled up-

17, 8, 9, 11, 14, 11, 12, 10
8, 14, 12, 11, 11, 11, 12, 10
13, 11, 10, 11, 12, 14, 9, 14
9, 11, 13, 14, 12, 13, 16, 10

All very playable without being supermen.

Maybe I am a generous Ref, but I like thing on the cinematic side. I use 4D6 best 3 reroll 1's.

Good stats aren't as important as level and skills anyway.

I use what is in the book... ;) 4d6 drop lowest for PC's, 3d6 for normal NPC's, 4d6 drop lowest for major NPC's. Or the array method.

Note that in the 2d stat traveller variants, I allow up to 2 individual dice to be rerolled on a "challenge roll"; keep the better of the old or new roll, throughout character generation. Some use them both in stats, some save them for benefits, others to avoid mustering out early, etc.

I use a point buy method for the first six stats, Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha and then 3d6 for Soc and Psi. If a player wants to be a noble then I allow a default soc of 16 if they can't beat that roll...

...now if only I had some players...

Ah, I like high powered games myself. What I have players do is roll 4d6 drop the lowest nine times, dropping one of those rolls, for their main stats. Then I have them roll 3d6 for PSI. Unless someone REALLY wants to play a psionic character.
