What's This All About?

I have some ideas about starport layout and design, over at

http://pocketempires.com/Eaglestone/StarportModuleCatalog.html

The second half of the very long 'page' is all about "upgrading your starport", and has a lineup of modular components to buy for your starport. I used it last night to build a small, 'mobile' class B starport inside a gargantuan planetoid hull, in order to take advantage of trade opportunities between two systems. The port-a-port sits halfway between the two -- two parsecs from each. And it looks like it will be able to make its astronomical monthly payments, too.

Woop, sorry there MadDog, thanks for the plug anyhow...

One possibility is to roll a starport in a similar way to rolling a UWP:

(1) Roll the starport size.
(2) Roll + size to determine class.
(3) Roll + size + class for orbital component.
(4) Roll for military presence (=base).
+DM for class A or B in a backwater subsector
(5) Roll for commercial presence.
+DM for high-pop, commercial subsector
(6) Roll for tourism presence.
+DM for pleasant or historic world.
(7) Roll + commercial + tourism to determine
average passenger & freight traffic.
(8+) Roll + passenger DM + freight DM for ship berths, maintenance facilities, life support, entertainment facilities, support ships, and whatnot.

How 'bout tables and seeds for encounters? Like some sort of patron chart?

How'd this get so many posts in such a short time?

When something hip is happening, it's so hot, an X-boat can't keep up.

Yeah, well ever since the couriers and X-Boats got rerouted (and that "planetary" development program started) I seem to be out o' the loop.

AA, I blame you!

And yes..encounter charts will be a "need-have item"...(see Shane's posts)!

You would probably want to have it based off of the main world stats and allow for deviations such as different law level for the port. Is it a space or down port.

What kind of port is it? Government controlled (Public, Diplomatic, Commercial), Private (Commercial, Individual), Resort, Military, Abandoned.

Thank You,
Space Hamster

Awwww, shucks..<modestly looks at ground>

No, Liam, I don't remember the Lone Star Chat on Sunday. That's cause I haven't been getting on the Internet on weekends lately, and may remain unable to join the chat.

Aside from some encounters I'm not sure I can contribute much, but I'll try...

Hmmm...

I sense something..a presence I haven't felt since..

my last Arba landgrab paper. So, another starport design book is in the offing. Eaglestones work is really good, though I do prefer GT's pads and berm berths. I guess most everyone is clearly in favor of large starports as opposed to the small ports that were initial present in CT. Yeah, ok, I can go along with that. I must contemplate this further...
