I'll be on vacation for the next 10 days or so, so the rather slow-paced Working Passage forum will be even slower. I've been getting some advice from an experienced referee, so I am hoping to improve the game to where it will be more enjoyable (i.e. less boring!). Please check out today's posts, see if I'm setting it on the right track.

Low point? I think we just got caught up in the pre-summer doldrums, it's totally normal. My own game is on a slight stall as I get the next installment together.

Seriously, (and I Am NOT brown-nosing) This is an excellent game, and I am totally into it. The diverse array of personalities is going to make it rock.

The game is set to continue on September 1. There will be some changes, but the game will continue where it left off. The biggest changes is in the crew -- one or two positions will be opening up. I'm in the process of filling them.

Jim, there may well be room for more. Your character may have to sign up via a jobs board in the Jingarlu capital on Ruie.
 
Working Passage is on track to resume the first Monday of September. It will start off more or less where it left off, in the central jungles of Ruie's largest continent.
 
As predicted, we have some group churn, but the rate of change so far is so slow that the game won't feel it. I am optimistic.
 
Though players don't need to know this, I am using Sigg's task system hybrid.

In a nutshell, target numbers are in increments of four, just like the DGP system, except the 'typical' difficulty is 8+, just like the original CT success roll. DMs include the skill level (which is rated 0 to 6) and Characteristic/4 (rounded down).

So, you can see that the natural maximum from just those three items above is a roll of 12 + a skill level of 6 + a characteristic bonus of 3, for a total of 21. I don't expect a 21 to ever be rolled. The average total might be 10 to 12. Thus the average character will succeed at typical tasks most of the time.
