Writing group?

Okay, if anyone wants some feedback, PM me and I'll give you my e-mail address. I'm NOT an editor; not even sure what a participle is. I can tell you if I liked it and if it made sense. Feel free to ask me for other things as well, but don't hope for a grammererrerrrarian.

I am also willing to provide feedback for any writing or writers. For most people asking for reviews I ask two questions. First what level of feedback are you looking for?

  1. Gratuitous ego stroke. E.g. Best thing I have ever read!!!!1!!
  2. Brief read through. Similar to above, but with a second sentence indicating I have read more than just the title.
  3. The obvious things. E.g. Vargr generally have fur and human skin isn't green.
  4. A detailed review. Similar to the previous entry but with more details flagged. Including inconsistencies in the text.
  5. An SJ Games play test. Every detail and decision is brought up and questioned.
  6. And an editor. Here, in addition to story details I question word choice and grammar.

The second question is about how you want feedback sent. If we're using a forum for soliciting feedback the answer is pretty obvious.

My only other comment is that the wiki isn't the best place to publish fiction. I would second the suggestion of Freelance Traveller. If Imperalines was publishing more frequently I would suggest that too.

tjoneslo, I appreciate your willingness to jump in! My personal goal is enjoyable fiction. Right now the first book has some known issues to fix so I want to deal with those. The hope is to refine it enough for print. We'll see how it goes.

Working on laying out the second book draft during NaNoWriMo.

Whether or not another place has room for Traveller Fiction is almost immaterial to the question.

Further discussion is best reserved for the pit, since the question's been put to the moot.

I've edited the header for the CMR to read:

"For discussion of Traveller fiction, both official and fan-written.
Fan-written drafts are explicitly welcome."

I'm about to go edit the permissions for moot members to close their own threads in that subforum, as well as tagging management for their own threads.

If anyone wants to read really bad stuff.

OK,

I have a Traveller Campaign that meets almost monthly(sometimes we have to take a month off) for the last 8 years.

Since my players are....forgetful...I started a web site and sent out "After Action Reports". The emphasis was on getting the AAR's out as accurately as possible, not style or(too often) spelling.

I am going through the pages and fixing that, but...

Anyway, if you have time to waste, you can see the art, history and other stuff for the campaign at www.usedstarships.com

There is also a mail me link on the site if you want to comment

I did post a link to my first Traveller novel in the Cleon Library topic for those interested in reading it.

This is the second Traveller based novel I uploaded. I mention it here because it's really more of a crossover than a pure Traveller novel. It was originally played out as a homebrew RPG several years ago on-line.

The original PBP was decent enough that when edited gave a good story. The ending was dramatically changed from the original as the original pretty much was lame.

The RPG rules for characters were that you could choose yours from any genre and they'd be used in the game with the skills and such they had from their fiction original.

Sifu strolls by, stops...and smiles

Yes, yes, yes!

Those of you with excessive amounts of boredom have read my TRAVELLER inspired fiction, which I slip in a random when the mood strikes. Having a dedicated spot to post them all would be great! Forgive me if that location is working already, for a long time except for posting fiction I have just been lurking.

My first novel is complete, with two [65%] and three [40%] in process.

I actually signed up with a self-publishing website some years ago, but i never got the time to get the first novel published. I shall investigate again and, with permission of course, share the site and details with all.

If you want to post a teaser chapter, fine. But, unless it's under a Traveller license, no links to sales, please.

I do find it kind of bad that we have all this talk of writer's groups and putting out stories to flesh out Traveller then nobody reads them when they are out there (yes, I have read Pakrat's in the Cleon library thread, just not commented on it).

If people are going to write, it only makes sense that those advocating that would want to take at least some time to read what others have written and try to help advance the entirety.

My problem with reading anything is that right now, I have managed to get myself involved in about 5 different projects, all of which take up time, along with dealing with some health issues.

This is a problem when it comes not only to game fiction but also fan made gaming material.

I agree. That's why I put so much on the PbP; it's one way of contributing.

There are URLs and stuff we can share to help writers. However, I've not put together a page or thread yet and gotten management approvals. Having already run afoul of advertising rules, I'm a bit overly cautious. :)

In the later respect, I have been contributing to the Travellerwiki the stuff I've done. I also try hard to make the contributions a quality product so they don't get brushed off.

+Artists

If you're gonna have a Writers group, why not tack on an Artists group for fans of Traveller? That way the two might synergize, telling stories with both word and image. Pictures = 1000 words.

Live via satellite, this is the Pakkrat.
