What's the deal with blue Darrians?

I keep seeing references to blue Darrians and pictures of the same.

I'd assumed Darrians were just *people* - probably pink or brown or shades thereof. Not blue.

Where does the meme of their being blue come from?

There was a thread a few weeks ago where someone proposed a Drow-like race of "Blue Darrians" to compliment the already "elven" Darrians. This cause much consternation amongst canonistas and amusements for others but in the end it became an interesting experiment in creating a plausible history for them.

There is a Blue Darrian thread in the Contact section, it explains some. Plus I am writing them up for Free Traveller, so that will explain more then.

I don't know really what happened in some ways, it started as a simple musing and now they have grown on me a bit.

For reference, IMTU there _definitely_ aren't any blue elves or little cute kitty-cat aliens.

Except for the named major species (Aslan, Droyne, Hiver, K'kree, Vargr), most "aliens" are just near-human (ie. pink or brown or shades thereof).

The Aslan are another deal, cos they really aren't cute - I see them like the aliens in Golden Witchbreed, a bit.

And Vargr are five foot/five foot six tops wolf-dogs, not the big musclebound hulk-wolves you see on the Mongoose Vargr cover...

The blue Darrians aren't meant to be a major race, I'm still writing this up for Free Traveller, but their blue color comes from a genetic modification of the hemoglobin in their blood. I don't exactly know if that was what you were asking, but if you have other questions, feel free to ask. I wasn't exactly trying to be facetious in my first post.

but not Blue. Blue is for interesting and funny races like the Andorrians not for boring Space feys.

Eh, Darrians are mostly harmless, despite their scary "Space Modulator". Left alone, the transplated Terran genes already spreading through their society will rend all of them indistinguishable from Solomani anyway. Let nature take its course.

And don't discount the Zhodani infilitrating Darrian space to create political dissent and render the Star Trigger impotent by turning the tide and establishing some sort of anti-WMD sentiment; I can't see why they wouldn't seeing their previous dealings with the Darrians.
