Can't figure out how to upload

I came up with some simplified planet templates that I thought others might find useful, but I can't figure out how to upload. Do I have to create a whole new set of directories within directories on my computer, or am I just an idiot (a real possibility)?

Thanks

Assuming it's a graphic file. You said template, so not sure:

CotI Features > Imperial Museum of Art > Maps* > Upload** > Continue > Upload from Computer. Type in a title and brief description.

*At the bottom.
**Top middle bar.

For other types of files:

CotI Features > File Library > Maps > Forum Tools > Post a New Thread > Click the Paperclip to Attach new file to thread.

Yes, it is a graphic file.

I'm sorry but I don't understand your instructions. I am not that computer literate. Please assume that you are instructing a retarded three year old, and go from there. ;)

Also, does it have to be in a specific format? I tried to upload a png image. jpegs are crap, as you lose the ability to manipulate them effectively in Windows Paint.

Regards.

1. Click on "CotI Features". It's under the big yellow "Citizens of the Imperium" banner. A drop down menu appears....

2. Click on "Imperial Museum of Art" in the drop down menu.

3. On the new page you will see a bar of several graphics. Just below this bar is a menu of several choices. Click on, "Upload", near the middle of this bar (2nd row down).

4. On the new screen you will need to select a Category. Open up the drop-down menu and select, "Maps" (or another category if you wish). Then press "Continue".

5. On the next screen, look under the box titled, "Upload File". I'm assuming your file is saved on your computer someplace (rather then on a website). Ignore everything but the, "Upload File From Computer" box. Click the "Browse" button next to it. This opens up a search for the file on your computer. Browse until you find the file you want to upload and click, "Open" or "Ok" or something similar.

6. Below the upload file box you will see a box where you can enter a title and brief description for your new file.

7. At the bottom of the page, click, "Upload".

It appears this board can handle the following graphic files with the size limits beside them:
jpeg.gif
gif
19.5 kb
jpe.gif
jpe 19.5 kb
jpeg.gif
jpeg 19.5 kb
jpg.gif
jpg 97.7 KB
png.gif
png 19.5 kb
psd.gif
psd 19.5 kb

These size limits are from a list on this board, but I think they may be old??

Gloriousbattle: all you have to do on your computer is make certain that you know where they are, and have saved them as one of the listed filetypes.

The rest is done while reading the board, on the board side of things.

These don't apply to the Gallery.

Still no luck. I scrunched the png file down to a nice, scrawny 16.5 kb, and I got this message when I tried to upload it:

"Sorry, gloriousbattle: Bad File - No File or File is too Large or of the Wrong MIME Type "

Is this maybe a feature only for paid members?

Nope, all members can do it.

Hmm. I've just tried, and got the same error. Ah...are you using Internet Explorer? If so, do you have another browser installed? I tried again with Google Chrome, and that worked fine.

As a test, I just uploaded a 112 kb jpg file to the image gallery. Everything worked as it always has for me in the past. I'm using Explorer 8.

Guess I could try with mozilla. I'll give that a pop in the morning.

Thanks

Success! Well, my cheap and dirty planet map is now up in the files section. Once I did it through google chrome, no problem.

So... is COTI being paid by google to sabotage netscape? :D Seems weird that it would not upload through that browser.

Anyway, thanks gents!

Netscape :oo:

My but you're loyal ;)

They dropped support and development a couple years back. That's a long time in computer land :)

Might be time to update your browser of preference. I like Firefox myself. I don't think it's ever given me grief. Unlike Netscrape and Internet Exploder ;)

If you gotta stick with Netscape, your problems may be as simple as some small internal error. I seem to recall some issues with it in the day, where installing a new bit of other software would cripple some feature in Netscape. It was also particular about the order of installation of itself and some other software. Maybe a re-install will fix it. With the usual caveats and precautions of backup all critical data first.

I must be a lucky one since I've always used IE and have never had an issue, ever, since around '95?

:)

It's probably not as bad it seems to me. I can break software with remarkable ease at times  (but not Firefox yet)

As one example, right now I've got 28 tabs open in Firefox. That's typical for me, sometimes more and usually a new window or two as well. Never had a problem doing that with Firefox. Wouldn't dream of trying that in IE without issues. But I'm probably just unlucky with IE.
