Last Post - bye all

Oh, and after all this, are you sure a two-day-old sandwich is a good idea? That could be a tragically ironic end...

:) But its a footlong Subway BMT. Those only improve with age - like pizza. That which doesn't destroy us, yada, yada...

Just letting y'all know I'm still ok today. But I have to go get the girls at school. Last day so we'll take a walk and maybe go play in the park or something and the sun will help them. Burgers later and we'll take ti from there.

Things will change, my sons didn't blame me when I got divorced, kids do understand. School might be good for you, it's a lot different now, I know I am way more focused now then when I was young, I even made the dean's list without trying yesterday, I got a certificate in the mail from the uni, and I opened it thinking "great, what now."

No doubt....and we are starting to have a lot people I used to work with and others come offering food, help getting to places (since she took the car) if needed, some friends came by this morning with some pizzas for the girls, and somebody got through to my former agency by virtue of these boards - I won't say who but his initials are "R" - and I had some people from our Emergency Intervention staff show uo today telling me that "you don't have to ask for help anymore...now people are going to be coming to offer it all the time and we'll make sure of it because we remember you".

Which was really good to hear, really good. I don't is what I used to do so much as who I did it with anymore. This was just more proof why.

Although I had to explain what Traveller was and all that stuff to them so they knew what COTI even was. Since the lead only played things like Everquest a long time ago the concept of actual paper and pencil RPG's was something he didn't even think was played anymore. LOL... that was good for a laugh.

That is excellent news. Local help is going to be very good. Good on them for stepping up! I'd like to have been there for the "What is Traveller?" explanation :D

Honestly I am not good at this sort of thing and whatever I write might make it worse(when I feel bad people's attempts to comfort can be like that to me). I have am often depressed myself-maybe I don't know what it's really like but I do know enough to sympathize. I've gone with almost no job for ages and it is humiliating. Just the same, please come back, you have friends here and everyone has a purpose in life whether they think they do or not. Me and my dad are praying for you and I have asked some of my friends to do so as well.

Yeah, it's tough to explain what Traveller is, I try to avoid it if I can, to other game people sure, but not to the public at large. I tried to avoid going back to school as well, should have not dicked around, though now I was just talking recently with friends and other people I know in my field (which is construction management) and they are hurting bad same as I am. I don't know what is going to happen in that industry.

It's good to hear you have backup from your crew at where you used to work, that is the way it should be. You aren't alone, these are tough times, there are millions of us in the same boat.

Just so you know and put it in perspective. Time to find a new job after losing one is now longer than during great depression.

Well I'm not all that badly off; I have a good family and an internship at the library to make up for it. However one's actual lot and one's feelings are not necessarily in proportion. In any case I'm not the point right now.

I, like those who've posted before me, am very seriously glad to see you back here posting. After that first post, I was worried, but decided to keep reading before doing/posting anything and was much relieved to read your later posts.

I'm relatively new both to Traveller and this community, but I've been very intrigued by the posts you've made and they just ramp up my interest in this game every time I come across one and my attempting to explain them to friends that I game with have made them more excited about it, too.

Whether you think so or not, you have a valuable place in the communities around you. First and foremost to your daughters - ask any one of them and I'm willing to bet they'd say you were their world - but also as an encouraging voice to those of us out here in cyberspace with our own trials and tribulations. Everyone has their brick walls in life, some small and some big enough to shield China from the Mongols, but it's always reassuring to find that you're not the only one scaling the cliff face and that others have succeeded before you.

Hold fast and look every day to your daughters. They, more than anyone else, both need and deserve you in their lives; strive to constantly give that most important gift of their lives to them with strongest desire and greatest love. I guarantee it will be the greatest gift they every receive.

Glad to hear from you again, Sabredog. It's good to know you've safely turned a corner.
Well done to 'R' for taking action while most of us were using words. I'm picturing James Stewart now - brings a tear to the eye.

I'll bet Mr Miller never guessed his game would have that much of an effect on someone's life. Looks like we have a real life Travellers' Aid Society going here.

I can only imagine the looks on the girls' faces when you told them you weren't dumping them on their mother.
Keep us informed of your progress and good luck in your endeavours.

Good to hear things are not as dire as they once were. I would recommend getting back to work in another area just to take your mind off your troubles and feel better about yourself. Get out of law enforcement for a year or so and drive a forklift or some job like that to pay bills and keep sane later go back when the bad feelings about recent events have passed into memory.

There is a big wide world out there and maybe you need to move somewhere else now. I have done that in the worst of times I ended up working in Saudi Arabia and China for a while. Not the obvious solution but you need to make some big changes.

Remember to take care of your kids most of all. My daughter is very important to me and you need to think about them first and foremost. Good luck and hope things turn out for the better.

What ASP said above was also my feeling - I needed to read more of the thread before I was willing to post.

That said, I know, from direct and personal observation (I work for the NYPD, though as a civilian REMF rather than a LEO), that a LEO can look to his co-workers for help when he needs it, as long as he did not disgrace his shield. From your description, you did not disgrace yours; if anything, those who had you in their sights are the disgraces.

You appear to have gotten through the initial 'crash' mostly intact, for which I am thankful; I regard you as a friend, and it would be fair, though perhaps understated, to say that I dislike losing friends.

Your Emergency Intervention staff may well be able to help you beyond the immediate emergency; do not hesitate to reach out to them for help and advice beyond your most immediate needs - they will be able to, at the very least, provide referrals to other sources of help. Look also to your fraternal organizations, and your union; the response engendered by 'R's action strongly suggests that they will not turn their backs on you. You undoubtedly have friends; they are a support network, and as long as you are willing to do what is necessary to put your life back together - or, if you prefer, build a new one - neither will they turn their backs on you.

You are at the beginning of a long road. Take that first step, be resolute, and continue forward. That you have Protected and Served for many years is to your credit; use the strength that you clearly have from that to go forward, and know that you do have friends who will help.
