It's not a new idea by a long chalk, but it's nicely presented.

I think[*] Chris actually presented this idea to Marc Miller back when he (Chris) was working on GT and was told no. It's 100 diameters regardless of the density of the object, as long as the density is above some threshhold (so e.g. the galaxy doesn't count).
