The Type SM is an attempt to have a more flexible ship that can b customized to specific custom needs. It can use standard modules from the 50-ton cutter, as well as a few specific to the IISS. One disadvantage is that without the module, the scout displaces under 100 tons and cannot jump.
The most common modules carried are the lab, survey (see below), scout ATV (see below), passenger (see 200-ton modular far trader) and cargo (ditto).
The modular scout has maneuver drive A, jump drive A and power plant A, giving 2G acceleration and Jump 2. Fuel tankage of 28 tons provides for one jump-2 and eight weeks of operation. There are two fuel processors. The bridge is equipped with a Model 1/bis computer and military sensors. There is one stateroom and no low berths. The ship has one hardpoint and one triple turret, but the ship is unarmed. It has a socket for one 30-ton module and has 1 ton of cargo. Repair drones are installed. The ship is streamlined.
The modular scout has a crew of two: pilot and engineer. The ship costs MCr 33.155.
New modules
Survey module: This is designed for planetside exploration. It has 3 staterooms, a briefing room, an airlock, an air/raft and 5 tons of cargo. MCr 4.405
Scout ATV module: This is a modification of the standard ATV module, providing extra living space. It has 3 staterooms, an ATV, and 8 tons of cargo. MCr 2.98 (including ATV)
