MGT Only: 200-ton yacht/light diplomatic courier

Brandon C

SOC-13
(1e, replaces the yacht in the core book for my pocket empires campaign. More suitable than the official version in frontier regions in standard campaigns)

Used both by nobles and diplomats, the 200-ton yacht is used for recreation and minor diplomatic missions. This ship has minimal protections against hostile forces. Some ships have a library instead of an office (briefing room). Some yachts have passed into the commercial sector as light passenger liners. In these cases, the G/carrier and ATRV are frequently omitted and their storage space is used for additional cargo (3.9 tons and 1.1 tons respectively). The ship's boat is normally outfitted with 11 passenger couches, leaving 8.4 tons of cargo space.

The yacht has maneuver drive-B, jump drive-B and power plant-B, giving Jump-2 and 2G acceleration. 48 tons of fuel supports the power plant for 4 weeks and one Jump-2. A Model 2 computer and basic civilian electronics are located in the bridge. There are 14 staterooms, with two combined into a suite. An office (briefing room) is also provided. One ton of luxuries is included. The ship has two hardpoints, with two single beam laser turrets. A 30-ton ship's boat , an unarmed G/carrier and an All-Terrain Recreational Vehicle (the latter two in full hangers) are carried for general duties. Cargo capacity is 10 tons. The ship is streamlined and has armor 2.

Crew consists of a Pilot, navigator, medic, engineer, and 2 stewards/gunners. If additional crew are carried, double-bunkING is required. A noble/diplomat and up to six guests/staff are also carried. The ship costs MCr 84.6 with small craft.

Note: The G/carrier and ATRV are in Supplement 6. While the TL 10 G/carrier only lacks the Plasma A gun and mount , the ATRV is the All Terrain Assault Vehicle without armament and with the internal combustion engine replaced with a hydrogen fuel cell.

Looks good.

Here's the T5 version of your ship.

Using a 200-ton, TL15 hull, the Yacht mounts jump drive-B, maneuver drive-B, and power plant-B, giving a performance of jump-2 and 2G acceleration. Fuel tankage supports a 2 parsec jump, at 16.5t per parsec, and one month of operations. Attached to the bridge is a Computer Model/2 std. There are six standard and seven luxury staterooms, and no low berths. A library is included. Installed weaponry include 2 T1 Beam Lasers. Cargo capacity is 10 tons. The ship has a streamlined hull, and is designed for tarmac and water landings.

Carried craft include one grappled Fast Boat, one ATV + hangar, and one GCarrier + hangar. The ship has 6 crew, and can carry 7 high passengers. It costs MCr 79.

Passenger demand: +1

Just one question: why an ATV if you already have the G-carrier?

The G-carrier can do anything the ATV can (having no gun, and so needing no gunner, I guess its passenger capacity is 15 persons, as the ATV) and a lot the ATV cannot, and you could save ove 10 tons (as it has full hangar) for more staterooms, luxuries or cargo capacity...

Just one question: why an ATV if you already have the G-carrier?

The All Terrain Recreational Vehicle is not an ATV. It is an unarmed version of the All Terrain Assault Vehicle, an 8 m^3 vehicle that carries 5 men. It is more a wheeled air/raft than an ATV. By comparison, the G/carrier without weapon mount is 30 m^3.

According to Supplement 6, a vehicle takes up one ton per 10 m^3.

And how much tonnage it need on the ship?

It it is As th ATV from CB page it would be 10 dtons (as the G-carrier), plus 3 more tons for the full hangars (30%, as per HG page 46), but what you say here seems smaller. From that it will depend if it's worth it (and even so, it will always be a personal opinión)

The designs from Supplement 6 take up much less space than the CB. The armed G/carrier is 32 m^3, which is 3.2 tons. The All Terrain Assault Vehicle is 8 m^3, which is 0.8 tons. At 130% space, that works out to 4.2 tons and 1.1 tons (rounding up).
