A CONTEST: Mercenary Unit Ticket

No prob Bryan, just having some sport at your expense

With Casey now I make it 6 contestants if I read all the posts right:

Blue Ghost,

far-trader,

Swordsage,

Casey,

Hal,

veltyen.

If anyone is missing you should post or pm Bryan asap.

Blue Ghost

One more thing; on my budget, do I have to budget in ammo for the firing range, or just stuff that's used "in mission"? Or is that part of the competition?
That would be your call to make.

and, yes.

Heh, late I know (geeze, I drop out of circulation for a few weeks and everythign changes), but if you need another judge I'm up for helping, Bryan (haven't had the time to read through the whole thread and see who's onboard yet).

Shane

Oh yeah, my mil quals if it matters:

Cpl (ex-Sgt - heh!) Shane Mclean RAMC (late REME)
9 years active service as a weapons and control electronics tech (Served with armour, arty and armoured infantry in technical and front-line role). Tours in Kosovo (months of foot infantry patrols and no hot water, oh how fun) plus playing-soldier deployments to plenty of mudholes, deserts and the like. Oh, and a year now in the medical corps doing a cushy nice air-conditioned job in a civilian hospital (yay!).

Well, I think that Bryan has enough judges already. Contestants though we could use a few more of those. How about giving it a go?

ALERT! last day to post contestants intent!

as of midnight, tonight, the contest will be closed to new contestants.

Jump on, if your taking this bus!

Eating popcorn up in the bleachers...

Q1. I dunno if the question has been asked, but do your pay rates apply to alien troops (eg Aslan, Ithklur, Sydite, etc)?

Q2. Could one take a standard design vehicle and add weapons to it (eg taking a open top air/raft and adding a LMG to it)?

Q3a. Will you be posting each contestants battle results here?

Q3b. Will you eventually be posting the TOE for each contestant (presumably after the contest is over)?

ATTENTION PLEASE!

ALL contestants are in, and Contest is now closed to new contestants.

All contestsants may now begin sumission of their units!

Thanx!

Any questions asked from outside the contestants will remove those questions from any consideration on the part of the judges on the grounds of outside assistance.

Regarding your non contest related questions:

assumiong the copntestsants opt to do so, then yes, TO and Es may be posted, but I would assume after the contest.

ATTENTION ALL CONTESTANTS!

submissions deadline for Units:

MIDNIGHT 15 AUGUST 2004

fire for effect, folks, and looking forward to seeing what you have. Any questions can be answered here, and any unit finalized will be posted here as well.

NOTE: only the unit descriptors will be posted here...no posting of the full unit need be posted UNTIL the deadline. Regard any special considerations as held information till then. OPSEC, effectively speaking.Post all the detailed unit descriptions to

sabakakrazny@aol.com

In phase two each contestant will see what all the others have, but not before. This allows competition to not be tempered by tailoring units off one another.

Unit descriptors, however, would be something all commanders could be expected to know assuming their intel officer isn't a blind monkey.Descriptors should include the following:

basic unit type (ie. striker, armor, spec ops) basic components (ie. approximate manning- company, battalion, regiment and so on)operational transport capacity ( come on, if your intel officer hasn't got men that can find out if a company fields a starship, he needs replaceing QUICK)and if they are bonded ( which would be public information in the company bylaws)

also, of course, Unit name and commander ( for flavor!)

All units will be assumed to be based on Annapabar. All units are funded by the same consortium, they are a well known name in the military investments buisness. No unit may be based in or at the starports , high or down, although a reasonable proximity is presumed.

Units are subject to the scrutiny of the Crown, although this is by means of a liason worker and an overworked GS 11 clerk. Units regimental or larger have a permanently assigned liasonn officer, who maintains a weekly contact. Liason officers review all papers, contracts and unit conduct. This is genearally pro forma, but is none the less a requirement ( liason officers being stood in by us, the judges)

In the merc world, liason officers are regarded two ways: by the merc commanders and his staff, a straightforward nessecity of buisness whereas the average troop regards them about the way a convict would his parole officer.

CONTINUED:

for the sake of simplicity, we are not assuming GREEN troops, but only Basic, Vets and Elites.

Basics would be considered regulars, trained but unblooded. They have good morale in garrison, and a good morale under fire. They may Rout, especially if they suffer loss of leadership. In this respect, they will be in danger of rout (or "breaking") in the event of 25% combat effective losses.they will either desert or surrender in the event of leadership losses of NCOs or their commander.Obviously, good leadership is critical to these troops.

Veterans are blooded, combat proven troops. They will rout, but are hardier and will frequently stand their ground. They use some initiative, and are relatively self sustaining in the event of leadership losses. They will withdraw in order if in the event of 50% combat effective losses. They will only rout in the event of catastrophic loss of leadership.

Elites are excellently trained and hardened combat proven troops. Initiative and self suffiecency is their hallmark. In the event of catastrophic loss of leadership they will withdraw in order.Elites will never rout.

Mercenary troops are not idealists, and will surrender if they suffer in excess of 75% combat losses, to engage repatriation, or if the objective is unattainable and they are surrounded.

HOWEVER, most mercs are also pragmatists: in the event of actions leading them to belive they will expect harsh or brutal treatment, they may opt to stand their ground. They will prefer to negotiate a surrender, but in event of rout will surrender unconditionally and activate their bonds.

In longer term campaigns this becomes less of an issue, but on a mission basis, such considerations are very real.

All contestants: look for a document in your email, it will provide you the intent and standards that we the judges will be applying. Read it in detail, everything you need will be there to get an idea of what we the judges will be looking for...

"Roger, copperhead is on the way..."

Question; is there a particular file format you want? I planned on submitting an attachment from Microsoft Word. Is that OK?

Actually, Word is fine.

Prefered formats: Word, .RTF, or if youm must, a .TXT...(but TXT, while it always works, is a major pain to read).

Noetpad or word pad are also acceptable, but when possible I would prefer word.

I suppose custom XML with attached DTD would be out of the question then.

Oh well.

RTF/TXT it is then. I am right in assuming that raw HTML would also be OK?

nope, don't do html, raw or otherwise. It ports over badly as well.( at least, with my limited understanding, anyway)

I am an artist, not a compy guru...as far as I know, the thing runs on magic and a very energetic squirrel on a wheel.....
