About the Free Traders Informer

I have had a number of Emails asking about the Free Tradfers Informer...so, with no further ado...answers!

Basically, what the Informer is , firstly, just as the "concept" intro reads...but it serves the primary purpose of being an item that players can goob on, providing actual traveller related bits in an inplay sort of way (like the old TAS articles) and also provide an item any GM can print out and hand to players as an actual newsletter...every ad, article and item is designed as an adventure hook!

in main actuality, Canon -wise...the Informer is an underground publication published specifically for the imperial traveller community, and is at best quasi legal...so much so that it is published on a free trader ( hence the name of the newsletter) named the The Yellow Kid and while TAS provides respectable news, the Informer is where you go for the real poop...they publish anything, includeing patrol routes, new scams, merc recruitment, crooks looking for work, patrons looking for adventurers, articles on weapons, legalities and how to beat them, new ships and old being sold, ...and naturally, they do not endear themselves to the established authority. (yep, there is a reason why they are on a ship...they never publish in the same place twice)

Issues can be had throughout the sector in hard copy or electronic format, and they transmit before and after every jump. The Informer is not a newspaper just anyone can find...joe shmoe the mundane Imp citizen likely hasn't clue one it exists, but anyone with a streetwise of 1 or better (or in T20, the Gather Info skill) can obtain a copy. If the player is a Traveller class character, it is already assumed he has at least knowledge of its existance and can obtain it easily, as in the Traveller community it is very well known.

If the character has the Well Connected feat, he may even be able to contact a reporter ( there are lots of stringers but given that most of them are professional adventures or even criminals, they generally maintain a low profile)

Please, feel free to use the Informer in your game... and if youv'e any questions, just drop a line here, at your friendly Free Trader Informer stringer...second comm box to the left, Startown...just across from Brubecks. No, that's not me, but I'll find the note, I promise!
