Air Raft

Mini Update:

I've overwritten the existing images so these will be the same as the ones on the front page too.
I've started texturing. The blue coachwork is sort of straight off the production line showroom polish and it's not final. I've just slapped a reflection map on it. It really needs proper raytraced reflections. The final version that's going under the Wedgie is actually going to have a roughed-up matt finish so I may not bother.
I'm also still not happy with those lights but they are improved I think.

Jame - sorry, no. I just need this to go with my Wedgie model. So this is it. I am toying with a removable canopy though...

Baron - Yes but I'd need a few things. I'll PM you...

By the by, what side do aircraft nav lights go on? Is it red=left/port green=right/starboard?

Crow

Odd. I'm still seeing the original images when I click on the textured links (though the thumbnails are obviously different). I've cleared out my caches too...

The thumbnails look good though ;)

BTW, the 'placekeeper' model under the wedgie is totally in shadow isn't it? Aren't you going to lose all this spiffy detail if you put this model in that picture?

Oops! I forgot to update the larger pics. Me stoopid!
Still in awe of me, Grufty? =)
And now BT is beign a **** and not letting me reconnect. I'll try and upload them again in half hour or so.

Yeah, you really won't see any of the interior detail atall even as it zips past because it'll be blurred =) I'm planning on an animation of it deploying from under the Suleiman and driving off.

I toyed with the idea of making it low-detail but where's the fun in that? =)

Crow

Yep, still in awe of ya, 'crow! I dig the crazy seat covers, straight out of your Astra, man! ;) .

I can see me sitting in one of these babies at the lights in central MK on a hot summers day, grav modules humming, Mode blasting out of the speakers ("Never Let Me Down Again", of course! :D ), and all the little boy-racers gawping in awe at me as I go UP into the clear, blue sky instead of forward when the lights change to green..........

I think I'm gonna cry, 'cos it ain't gonna happen in my lifetime............. :(

As for the steering column being on the right - well, I'm British and it's what I'm used to. I can easily flip it but then who's to say there won't be right-hand drives in the future?
Dammed Vilani. Figures they'd get it all wrong. Might have to add another IMTU code to my sig.
;)

Actually Gruffty that's something that's bugging me about it now. It is maybe a little too family saloon. I know air-rafts are more or less the multipurpose car of the foocha - but I can't help feeling that I've made it a bit too 'nice'. I think it should be less Vauxhall Astra and more Landrover really for that frontier ruggedness. Sure the shape and design is direct from the CT and MT illustrations but I wonder if perhaps I've made the interior a bit too comfy...
Then again modern day Landrovers are pretty plush inside.

I guess it won't look quite so 'nice' with the battered matt body work.

We'll see.

Crow

I like that it looks like something you could almost go down to a car showroom today and pick up - it makes it look more "real".

I'm sure there are more rugged versions of air/rafts out there though.

Affirmative. The easy way to remember is that port (the drink) is always red, and port in nautical terms is the left hand side.

Crow,

Keep in mind that every manufacturer is trying to please a slightly different market plus every year there are going to be improvements made to the look/feel of the ride.

I think having a couple of different designs based on the original is great and I would encourage you to keep pumping them out! Call it the new models for year XXXXX.

You can always produce the luxury model, the rough and tumble model, and the family model.

Wow! That 3D art to part thing is cute! We used to use something similar at modelmakers but it used to cost a fortune for even the tiniest part.

I have and use Pepakura. I recently used it to make an Enterprise bridge (Wrath of Khan style). The Air-Raft model that I've made is waaaay too complex for Pepakura. However I have been talking to the Baron about making a low-detail version of the raft for use in Microsoft Flight-Sim and if I do that then that could easily be translated into a paper model in Pepakura.

So many ideas so precious little time =(

Crow

Hang on a minute, did you say you can put these models into FlightSim... does that mean you could do the same with your scout ship designs???

And another thought.
Have you considered producing a walk through movie, exterior action shots, deck plans, and interior still images for your various ship designs. Then sell them to interested parties (like me ;) ).
