CT Only: Alien Module 4 Zhodani Escort crew question

Evening all,

In Alien Module 4 pages 40-41 the Zhodani Escort has a crew of 13 which include a pilot, navigator, four engineers, a medic, and six gunners. Additional personnel include three small craft pilots, an extra gunner, and thirteen ship's troops.

For the spreadsheet I used a word generator and identified the 600-ton Zhodani Escort as the Ralepef-Class and the ship's name is Chenchtiinsh.
The Chenchtiinsh carries two 10-ton fighters which account for two of the small craft pilots. The other carried small craft is a 20-ton launch which per the write-up on page 18 of Book 5 HG2 1981 has a crew of two. The pilot is accounted for, but not the second crew member. I've scoured Alien Module 4 to see if there was a rule modification, unfortunately I was not able to locate anything.

What happened to the launch's second crew member?

Next, wouldn't the extra gunner be part of the crew?

Stop using HG2 - most of the Alien Module ships are LBB2 designs with LBB2 crew requirement.

If you try to duplicate LBB2 designs with HG2 or HGS you are :CoW:

Book 2 has a problem, in my opinion, with the crew count.

The ship has 7 gunners per book Book 2 rules the minimum is 6. The seventh gunner is a crew member, in my opinion, and should be counted as crew not passenger.

Next the small craft crews are off by one under the rules on p. 17 and the launch details on p. 18. The rules state, with the exception of fighters, the minimum small craft crew is 2. The Zhodani Escort indicates that there are 3 small craft pilots to crew a launch and 2 fighters. The launch according to p. 18 has a crew of 2.

Of course there is, in my opinion, a disagreement between the ship crews rule for gunners and the small craft rules. Ship crews under gunner entry states that armed small craft require separate a gunner. The small craft rules says that the pilot of an armed small craft without a gunner can fire the weapon at -1 skill level.

The 3 pilots, should be 2 fighter pilots, 1 launch pilot and 1 launch crew member in my opinion, along with the extra gunner should be crew.

The 13 ship's troops are passengers until they are needed to fight with some opposition.

My attempts at building the Zhodani Escort using HG2 is to add the Book 2 drives and power plants to the sequence and to see what the ship would be like. Also, I am trying to determine how the cost in Consolidated CT Errata might have been calculated.

However, I do appreciate the comment and suggestion of sticking with Book 2. Unfortunately, I have set myself the goal of completing the rough draft of the HG2 spreadsheet that includes Book 2 drives and some of the stuff from Adventure 5.
