Alternate T/Medical Rules...

Flynn

SOC-14 1K
Good morning, All,

My players have recently been voicing their opinions in regards to the state of the current T/Medical rules. In essence, many of them are D20 Modern fans, and prefer the approach of the Treat Injury skill over the overly complex nature of current T/Medical chart. In addition, they had problems with the fact that machines and drugs can be more effective than a highly skilled physician, even at the doctor's best. This grew into a debate on my game's mailing list, and finally, we began to compile alternate T/Medical rules for our campaign.

You can find the rules here at:
Alternate T20 Medical Rules

These rules reflect D20 Modern more closely, while maintaining a strong T20 presence on modifiers and the like.

While it appears that this will work well for our gaming group, I am curious about any outside evaluations. If you have any constructive comments, they would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Flynn

Goodness! Six pages at 12-point font(favored by Trainee Old Farts). This will take serious time and consideration to evaluate. After a brief skim/download it looks fairly comprehensive. One question: Are the majority of your players triage trained? Contributions of such high quality work are greatly appreciated. Thanks Flynn.

Based on a quick skim...looks good!

I might tweak a couple things, but that's just personal taste, overall it looks worth a more in-depth read later and possible adaptation.

Thank you, gentlemen.

In truth, I am not certain as to the medical training of my players. However, we did check out Robert O'Connor's excellent examination of medicine in Traveller, located on the web at:
Freelance Traveller - Lab Ship - Medicine In Traveller

Starting from D20 Modern and that excellent evaluation of medical practices, we explored a number of options, finally paring the system back down to something that should be quite usable, without bringing too many excessive changes to T20's basic combat sequences. (Combat is deadly enough without adding detailed rules on the loss of limbs, etc.)

Eventually, we hope to expand it with prosthetics, bionics and cybernetics, but that'll be a little bit.

Thanks again,
Flynn

Without actually having tried the rules in a game, I like what you've come up with, and it's certainly cleaner than the standard rules.

A pity that Roberto isn't around anymore since, as a physician, he could provide a good sounding board for the rules (though I'm happy to have R_Kane back too, so that's beside the point).

The only issue that I see right now is that the DC for healing goes up dramatically for Virushi (and Ursa) since they can soak up lots of damage. Doesn't seem quite fair that a Virushi will be near impossible to stabilize when he is dying (Lifeblood for Darishun is 36, so a DC of 41?). Maybe a sliding scale after, say 20 points of damage?

Anyway, not a concern right now, and I'd be happy to try out the rules in our PBEM game.

I don't know, that kind of seems poetic (justice) to me, the bigger they are the harder they fall, and all. So they are tough to do lethal damage to but once done it's massive systems failure not just one or two major injuries to treat.

Absolutely Outstanding, Lord Flynn!

Is that pbem campaign I see before me? It looks very interesting... the background is certainly a good read... Looking for players? Art? Character Portraits? Graphics? Let me know , will you?

If the mechanics can be incorporated into combat without slowing game play too much the viseral(no pun intender) reactions can be most satisfying. Funny, but it seems that our group tends to lose at least one body part in any major campaign.
