Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
Your stuff is great! i've admired it for some time. I think a art forum would be nice. Some of the info and knowledge some of you have can save time and make amature artists like me get better results. I applied some of it already. I created a new starport render the other day. Kinda used to cover of T20 guidebook as inspiration. Its msn spaces so hopefully you can all get to it.
btw: your system defense boat looks good. I can't seem to model the basic hull. Seems like it shouldn't be that hard, but I gave up. maybe someday they'll make a basic primitive that looks like an eraser.
thx! Your right. If I need a landscape Bryce makes them fast and easy. I modeled in 3ds, imported to bryce (reapplied the textures. ugghh), then photoshop'd some dirt on it. Know of any others that import 3ds 1/2 way decent for cheap? Your the second 3d artist to spot bryce right away.
Bryce does have a fairly distinctive look. I used to use it myself a few years ago. For landscapes it's great, but for anything else it's a bit of a pain.
If you want cheap software, check the coverdiscs of computer magazines. They quite often give away free copies of older versions, along with cheap upgrades to the current version.
Some nice stuff there, mate.
If I had one crit it would simply be that there is so much going on in each image that they get a bit noisy and unreadable.
Also, is it possible to soften shadows in Bryce? The shadows on the mountain range are solid black. There should be some ambient radiosity there making them muted, darker, slightly purply shades of the main surface texture.
Got a bit distracted with other things, but here's my version of the Marava back end. The plans (and only known picture) show two sets of twin m-drives, and that's what my old model had, but I was never totally happy with it. What do people think of this version?
Top notch! I love the drives. I absolutely hate the iris valve doors. Now, I've always hated Iris valve doors but I realise they are a Traveller Deckplan trope. However the thing bothering me about these is the curve in the segments. They're too curved. Too banana-like. They need to be a lot straighter. More of a subtle curve. Katana-like.
Love those drives though. Love the Cricket oval shape. Love the modelled detail. Love the surface texture.
