Are the ship supplements useful if you don't want to use the rules?

For example it is very quick and easy to convert T20 ships to CT and vice versa. It is most annoying to convert from CT to MT or MT to CT and TNE goes a entirely different route so doesn't convert well. So how closely does Mongoose ship design follow LBB2/LBB5 ship design rules?

My answer to the question "Are the ship supplements useful if you don't want to use the rules?" is yes. If looking at these from a purely deck plan point of view there are some ship design elements that are foreign to CT (lots and lots of escape pod storage, for example), but they don't really get in the way as far as I'm concerned. One could handwave them as differences in design philosophy between Spinward and elsewhere in the Imperium in one wanted.

I suppose I should caveat this with a statement saying I try to not get bogged down in differences between rules, especially where deck plans are concerned.

Any ships in a science fiction/space setting are great.

If it has deckplans, images of the ships and some write up about the ships then it is worth it, even if it is not the same game.

I appreciate the responses, however I buy Traveller material to play, not just look at deckplans. If it is going to require massive work to convert the ships themselves to the rules I am using, regardless of how pretty the pictures are, it isn't worth my time.

Are the stats in nice easily recognizable numbers? Or do I need to spend more time converting them than it would take to design them from scratch?

Yes I think they are. Same stats for the most part a ton is the same the drive numbers are similar the performance is the same few little differences like armor and computers not taking up tonnage. I think they changed the rule on ship size needed for a weapons bay so you will see smaller ships with bay weapons. Mongoose is very close to classic traveller in a lot of ways.

Compatabilities:
CT Bk2: Designs not compatible with most other systems. Most components compatible.

CTHG and T20: both use the exact same rating system for their combat statistics, and T20 expands a few options. about 98% compatible

MT: ratings used are the same as CTHG (and thus T20), but the fundamentals of designs do differ. I've used CT designs from Supp9 in MT games as agressors. Absolutely no issues there. Biggest differences: Controls vs bridge, fuel requirements (PP & JD)

TNE & T4: designs compatible to each other, ratings not. Rerate from designs. Designs not entirely compatible with anything else. Many components not comparable with other editions (Bridge, MD, Weapons, LS); nature of MD different from other editions.

GT: designs not compatible with any other designs. Ratings not compatible. Most components comparable to CTHG/MT/T20

MGT: Design system fairly compatible with CTBk2, most components compatible with CTHG/MT/T20. Most plans compatible with CTBk2 plans; correct plans should be within the 10% slop.

I haven't had much problem converting GT ships to MGT. I think it would be easy to convert the ships to T20 if you're a ship design person :) I forget the term :)

I'm not big into the numbers and the exact sizes so I guess I thought it was easy to move from GT to MGT. I just kept the hull size and spirit of the ship. Most of the main components are in MGT High Guard.
