Attn: Historians of the Rebellion Era (1116-1248)

Unless this is a propagation delay issue, this would mean that Lucan deliberately abandoned Corridor to the Vargr.

Or did the Vilani seal off their border to prevent the Vargr invasion? Vland declared independence at some point, didn't they?

And thus the conspiracy theorists prosper!

More of a character motivational thing. It's hard to be loyal to an Emperor who abandons you and your people. In my case he does this twice, abandoning Lemish to the Vargr and Tsamis (along with all the Vegans) to the Solomani.

Not a big fan of Emperor Lucan.

Your local recruiting office needs the likes of you.

Duke Norris.
He did not abandon his post like the real Strephon, and allow the Imperium to fall into chaos while his double, wife, daughter and nephew were murdered.

He's not a murderer like Dulinor,

He's not a back stabber like Lucan.

With the Vilani, who is really in charge?

In any event, it doesn't really matter. Deneb and Vland are equally too far away to be much help even if they were not already dealing with their own issues to help us.

Lemish? L.E.M.I.S.H.? Anyone got a map for that place?

Oh my! They've been made a capital!

(Norris)

:eek:mega:

Oh! Udmi ⌧ - Why didn't you say!

(Vland)

Clearly looking for your own security is the best option. So...how do you overcome odds of 10,000:1?

If you read back a while, the way I originally wrote up that part of the history, I died in the second, and last, day of the invasion.

I didn't survive.

The invading Vargr took over, there was a gureilla movement that went on for a few years, and Lemish settled down after most of the forces moved on to Depot. The DGP material states that a million Lemishians died in the invasion and in 1105, Lemish had a population of a million. Even with refugees and everything, that is still about 3/4, or more, of the human population at the time.

Not all longshots pay off.

I did want to have, in orbit, a decommissioned Plankwell as the Imperial War Memorial. Prior to/shortly after the fleet leaving, her weapons systems were reactivated. However there was not time or material to get her engines going so, she was essentially an orbital weapons platform that did it's best, but ultimately was overwhelmed and destroyed. But not sure how kosher that would have been gamewise.

In game terms it would need to be a damaged B0 TL-15 squadron of about 1-1-1. If it survived and was repaired it could become B4 TL-15 1-1-2.

I haven't looked at the ships in storage yet. There seem to be several worlds that were used for that purpose including (improbably, given it's front-line position) Durima! It isn't impossible for the naval base at Lemish to have something tucked away.

The Ziru Sirkaa basically prevent Lucan from mattering above and behind the claw. Or even within 50 parsecs of it.

I have wanted to model how many ship would have been so far along in their projected maintenance that they could not leave with the fleet. Probably a few destroyers, maybe. It is 2 weeks between receipt of the orders and the fleet leaves, so not that many.

As for the Plankwell, it's not manuverable. It orbits Lemish, and most folks don't know the weapons were rebuilt. It's It's a last stand Thunderchild/Alamo/Charge of the Light Brigade kind of story.

The "All leave on the same date" thing is over-rated. The sector size means that the Lemish contingent gets 8-12ish weeks extra on the Khouth Contingent because of the time it takes the Khouth Contingent to find out about the orders and then get to the rendezvous.

The J3 and J4 squadrons are going to move at different speeds - anything slower than J3 (all local fleet) is just going to be so slow as to be useless. May as well stay. Anything J4+ that can follow on will be ordered to follow on...it may subsequently be ordered to stay by the local admirals though!

what you say is all true, however the whole reason for naval bases is to build/repair naval ships. Some tear down and rebuilds can take 1 or 2 years with present day naval vessel. I can imagine one or two destroyers, perhaps a cruiser, depending on yard availability, that would be forced to stay behind because they were in that place in their repair cycle where they were too far gone to reassemble quickly.

Cut off, behind vargr lines. A desperate and overwhelming fight or flight to rejoin the fleet, (or stay behind to help with defenses, or say to heck with the whole mess and go pirating )

Just an idea.

I dug out my old Lemish notes, and found the map of the planet,

The blow up of the central portion of the planet. With only a million people it's not all that spread out.

The large enclosed area to the west is the Ducal Estates on Lemish. It also contains the towns of Springfield and Kudra.

The smaller area in the east is the Baronial Estates on Lemish. It contains the small village of Baronton, and the suburbs of Franklin. Kudra is the subsector capital, Franklin is the planetary/system capital. The Lemish Imperial Starbase sits between Franklin and Kudra.

With the above map and a bit of research/tinkering, could do an "Invasion: Lemish" game. Not that it would last that long.

How did you make the map?

I used Campaign Cartographer 3 with the Cosmographer and Fractal Terrain addon. The map layout is a standard part of the package. It is made by Profantasy Software Ltd. I can recommend it, although it has been a few years since I have used it.

It is a structured drawing program, quite versatile and designed specifically for making maps, any kind of maps, from planets and star systems, down to dungeons, houses and starship deckplans.

Again, I highly recommend the software.
