Biotech and Nanotech

Dunia

SOC-6
The Imperium was never that loving when it came to cybernetics, acording to the Mega Traveller books, and those playing in New Era would never ever wish to "jack up" their bodies with stuff that can be taken over by the virus (Though in Vampire Fleets and an adventure in Challenge Magazine - there were people that had become cybermonsters ruled by the Virus).

So, I was thinking about what stuff was commonly used in the Imperium?

* Small Nanotech implants that enhanced the resistance against diseases (Endurance/Constitution +3/+4 vs diseases only). Like the standard shots we take today or give our children to avoid having them get babydiseases.

* A biotech implant that allowed you to breath tainted atmospheres.

* Artificial, (biological) working gills.

* A waiting nanotech that lies dormant in the body and only activates, if your body starts to lose alot of blood, and when activated starts to help coagulating the blood. If this is not used within say 3 months, it dissipates harmlessly.

* an implant that reduces or prrotects fully against radiation for X hours.

STAT ENHANCERS
* (STR) Enhanced musclemass (like steorids) without the drawbacks that exist today
* (INIT) Enhanced neural activity (+ initiative) that boosts the Sense->brain->reaction speed
* (AGL/DEX) Enhanced reflexes and agility
* (CON/END) Enhanced lung capacity etc
* (CHR) cosmetic biochirugy

Please come up with more ideas, what I want is to come up with stuff that is not Combat oriented, more things that most people would want to improve life.

I like your suggestions Dunia.

Take a look at the various drugs and their affects - how many of them could be explained as biotech or the like? Use the existing drugs as a guide to how powerful to make new implants/enhancements and you won't unbalance the game IMHO.

Then there are the various stat increases from character generation - these could be the result of implants or enhancements of one sort or another.

In the experience chapter of CT learning skills as RNA implants is mentioned, so perhaps temporary skill bonuses could be gained also.

There've been a couple other such threads in this subforum (I started one). Maybe at some point I'll dig up links.
