Borders/Labels in TravellerMap?

For custom data, TravellerMap will automatically generate labels inside borders. Usually this is the name of the polity, as listed and spelled in the metadata file.

Is there a way to customize these automatically generated labels? They seem a little small to cover a polity that stretches across subsectors.

I'd like to be able to change the size of the labels, in particular, and the color, if possible. Can this be specified in the stylesheet of metadata file somehow?

Yes. You can either use styling attributes on the Border element, or suppress the label on the border itself (ShowLabel="false") and add a Label element. Documentation is at:
