CT Only: Carried Small Craft and Vehicles question

Hello all,

Does anyone know of a document that lists at a minimum the TL, tons, Cost, Crew, Passenger capacity, and source for the carried/subordinate small craft, big craft, and vehicles in CT?

I would rather not recreate a list if there is one already developed and available for use.

The Consolidated Equipment List has some of the information you're asking for in the "Vehicles" section. You'll have to weed out the CT-only material (easily done as each entry is plainly labeled as to source). No passenger/crew/cargo info, though.

Fair warning: there may be holes in it. I don't, for example, see the Prospector's Buggy from the Seeker entry in there. (Supp. 7, Traders and Gunboats).

I don't know of any equivalent list for big/small craft.

Thank you for the your reply and the link to the Consolidated Equipment List by Peter Vernon. At least now I can see how big a hole I have in my list of material I've pulled together.

Looking at the Rescue ball entry my volume calculation using a cylinder of about 5 cm in diameter and a height of 10 cm doubles the volume which the equipment list appears to show as 1 m^3.

At least now I have another source to check to see what I'm missing.

Thank you again for the help and link.

Not sure you should be thanking me, it looks as though I've just added to the muddle. ;)

You're welcome in any event.

I believe that you're correct on the rescue ball although it might bear checking the reference to be certain. There well may be other issues but it's a valuable resource even so.

I'm a pack rat for information on Traveller and any other game I have. Of the problem is that I have problems remembering where I've squirreled the bits away.

Have a good one

Hello GypsyComet,

Thank you for the rply.

Later edition vehicles are a text rendition of their spreadsheet and a TLAR price adjustment away from being CT vehicles...

I'm not sure what is being said but here goes my attempt to see if I have a clue on any part of it.

My guess is that the in later Traveller rules the vehicle prices are different from those in CT. The pricing for CT LBB 2 1981 2nd edition pricing for the same vehicle name is different from what CT LBB 5 HG 2nd edition 1980 returns.

What is TLAR price adjustment, my web search as usual is lousy.

Really, what he means is, "Pick one, any of Striker, MT, FF&S (1 or 2), T20, T5, or MGT. Take what little CT actually needs from the writeup of the stats, chuck the rest. And stick with it." and/or "You don't need a design system, you can just populate your CT game with vehicles from any published edition by ignoring some of the stats."

The implication being... CT doesn't need detailed vehicle stats, so use whichever you understand best, and ignore what you don't need.

My own advice is similar: which one comes easiest for you.

Unless you're publishing, in which case, T5 or T20. (designs done using T20 are OGL, even tho' the design system is not... and the results are more consistent than "Just make it up as you go".)

Hell, at one point, I used Car Wars for my CT vehicle rules. (CW 1dp = CT 2d6)

But I'm a bit of a nerd.

Oh, and TLAR = "This Looks About Right"...

Thank you for translating the information GypsyComet supplied.

My current project is going through my CT books and compiling a list of the carried vehicles with tons, price, crew, passengers, and when possible the TL. The small craft in CT LBB 2 do not appear to list a TL so I used the Maneuver Drive Rating TL found in CT LBB 5 HG 2.

At some point I'll try going through the other Traveller rule sets to add to the list. In the event of sharing a design the write-up will have a notes section listing where the item used came from.

Thank you aramis, GypsyComet and Piper for the information provided.

I typically have two modes for board replies: terse and "babble"...

If you would like an example of converting a later vehicle to CT's descriptive form, I'll see what I can whip up.

I think I've mentioned it before, but there was a fairly simple vehicle design system presented pre-Striker in the pages of Space Gamer. Somewhere between Book 2 and Book 5 in complexity.

Yes, please I would very much like to learn how to convert a later vehicle to CT formatting.

You probably have mentioned the simple vehicle design system published in Space Gamer and I was not paying attention resulting in missing an opportunity to check the system out. By chance do you or another member recall which Space Gamer issue?

Hopefully, I have the issue in my magazine collection.

Thank you for your help and the offer to provide a method of converting non-CT vehicles into CT formatting.

Hello aramis,

Note that the majority of the issues are on archive.org... including 44.

Thank you for indicating that archive.org has a majority of the issues. I have been checking on the site to see what they have and I have not gotten to the letter S on my list.

Luckily I have issue 44 in my collection.

I'm sorry, Tom. When you wrote:

I assumed you were creating a list of published CT designs. I didn't realize that you wanted a vehicle design system.

My apologies for the misdirection.

For what it's worth, there's another one here:

My apologies for going off on a tangent, but you provided the information I was asking for, however if the Consolidated Equipment List by Peter Vernon is missing an item or some of the information like TL is not provided I would like to have a fall back option.

The Prospector Buggy appears to be an enclosed air/raft, but then again as you pointed out there is no matching entry.

Having a design system is a fall back option and thank you for the new link, which I've bookmarked for easier access the next time I need to find something.

Does anyone know how the vehicles where constructed prior to Striker?
