Predicting how one nation will feel about another in just five years time is difficult enough, let alone 314. I mean who would have thought that Denmark would be at the top of the Saudi s***list 6 months ago???

- FWIW, Vietnam has fought China more recently than it has fought France (1979 vs mid-50s). But anyway, TheKiwi hit the nail on the head!

I said slightly less. The story seems to be that the 1979 incursion into Vietnam was quickly stopped by local militia forces. It didn't last long enough to create the National rancor the French generated.

But the Vietnamese are well aware that China is a dangerous neighbor. Perhaps more dangerous as a freind.
