Collapsible Tanks

Icosahedron

SOC-14 1K
I'm having problems finding references to collapsible fuel tanks, particularly where they were first mentioned. Can any canonistas help?

Trillion Credit Squadron (Adv 5) has the most understandable complete set of rules for additional fuel tanks

Cheers

I'm pretty sure they were first mentioned in The Traveller Adventure - a mod that allowed the player's Subsidized Merchant to make two successive J-1s.

Collapsible Tanks:
In Search of Longer Legs is the name of the Chapter of TTA.

Might also be elsewhere in CT, but that is the source I've used.

Hate to nitpick, but The Traveller Adventure only has demountable tanks in that chapter (on p44). Collapsible tanks are in Trillion Credit Squadron.

I believe the rule in TCS was that they collapse to 1% of tonnage. I always fit mine in the cargo hold, although I'm not sure if they need dedicated space.

Consider a tank you want to expand or unfold from your back - it sounds like it needs dedicated storage with doors. YMMV.

Well, if not "dedicated" then at least "allowed-for", I would figure.

I always store them off to the side of whatever part of the hold they would otherwise displace if full -- although if small enough (say, 1dt or less when empty) I have been known to fold them up and stick them in an unused stateroom temporarily... empty magazine space can probably also be repurposed if need be, I reckon.

You might even be able to (again, temporarily) stow a collapsed tank on an air/raft or other vehicle having a bit of unused cargo capacity itself.
