CT lite

That's alright. there are plenty of us with DTP experience (in my case Quark or Pagemaker for layouts as well as Adobe Professional and others for creating pdf's)

Webspace is cheap but if you have an idea for a domain name I'd be happy to help.

i also have a little space on 2 different places
if you need it and the file isnt too large...

i think also if you look there are a couple online
places that turn files into PDF for free, you upload you rfile and in a matter of minutes it
converts it and emails you the new PDF...

I have Acrobat 5, so I can make fully functional PDF's, when the time is right ;)

I could also host it if need be at my site in my Sig....

I'm writing a kind of CT lite, for a quickstart kit to promote French Traveller.

I'm stil not sure about chargen, but the resolution system looks like that :

traveller-intro-resolution.jpg

Action resolution
All challenging actions have a difficulty threshold.
average => 6
hard => 8
very hard => 10
extreme => 12
impossible => 14
To attempt a task, the player has to roll two six-sided dice, add them to the level of the corresponding skill, and another bonus based on the appropriate characteristic.
If characteristic <= threshold x 0,5 => -1 to roll
If characteristic >= threshold => +1 to roll
If characteristic >= threshold x 1,5 => +2 to roll
If the total is equal to or greater than the threshold, the task is achieved.

Combat
Strength is associated to close combat, dexterity is associated to range combat.

Armor
No armor : threshold 6
Jack armor : threshold 8
Cloth armor : threshold 10

Range combat
Threshold +4 if in close combat with a long firearm (rifle...)
Threshold +2 if range > 50m
Threshold +4 if range > 500m (unless using a rifle with sights)

Close combat
Threshold +1 per level of the foe's skill in brawling or blade combat.

Damage
Damage dice are shared, as the victim wants, among their three physical characteristics. Exception : the first wound is applied to a random characteristic.
Is a physical attribute falls to 0, the character is unconscious.
Is two physical attributes fall to 0, the character is in a coma.
Is three physical attributes fall to 0, the character is dead.
Conscious or unconscious characters recover half their damage points in 10 minutes : the rest wears off with medical care, or at least three days of rest.
A coma requires urgent medical care.

Equipment
A credit is approximately equivalent to an euro, if you want to estimate prices. Here are some sample costs :

Armes
Fists (free, damage 1D) : the natural weaponry of Humaniti
Foil (100 Cr, damage 1D) : a sport and prestige weapon
Dagger (10 Cr, damage 2D) : a small blade for defense
Club (free, damage 2D) : improvised weapon, used with the brawling skill
Body pistol (520 Cr, damage 2D) : a small non-metallic firearm
Cutlass (100 Cr, damage 3D) : the standard starship blade weapon
Rifle (220 Cr, damage 3D) : a long and precise firearm
Auto rifle (1.000 Cr, damage 3D) : may fire twice a round
Auto pistol (210 Cr, damage 3D) : the basic small firearm
Submachinegun (520 Cr ; damage 3D) : fires twice a round
Large sword (300 Cr ; damage 4D) : a very heavy 2-handed weapon
Shotgun (160 Cr ; damage 4D) : a rifle for hunting
Silencer (200 Cr) : for auto pistols
Electronic Sights (2.000 Cr) : light-amplifying sights

Armor
Jack (50 Cr) : Heavy leather clothes.
Cloth (250 Cr) : Bulletproof suit.
Vacc suit (10.000 Cr) : A space suit.

Vehicles and ships
Car (4.000 Cr) : ...
Al-terrain vehicle (30.000 Cr) : ...
Air/raft (600.000 Cr) : ...
Slow boat (15.000.000 Cr) : ...
Scout / Courier (29.430.000 Cr) : ...
Free Trader (37.080.000 Cr) : ...

I hope this is still being worked on! It sounds great. I'll throw my hat in the ring to produce a professional looking PDF for it.

Care to share this? (Or anyone else with a condensed or lite version of Traveller care to share?)

I have a copy of the black book set, GURPS rules, the FFE book 1-8 reprints, and just bought Classic Traveller on e-bay, and I'd like a shorter version of the rules so that I can start to play in a hurry. (I figure I can read the actual full rules set as time permits, but I want to get a game going ASAP.)

Oh, and French doesn't help me no matter how well written the rules. ;)

Since the T5 forums are down does anyone have an available copy of Andy Slacks CT Lite?

I would also be interested in Sigg's work if it ever gets done.

I am looking for a lite version I can carry around to cons with me for some get started fast games in hope of spreading the Traveller Goodness to the heathens.

If anyone has the A. Slack version, I would be grateful if you could email it to me. Thanks

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone in this thread ever finished their "lite" version of the game, and if so, how I could get a hold of a it. Thanks.

Update

Those of you going through this thread may have noticed that the link posted to Andy Slack's Halfway Station didn't work. If you (like me) googled Halfway Station you found the new site, but noticed that the Classic Traveller Ultralite pdf was not available, as it once had been.

Well, Mr. Slack has dug up the file in question, and has posted it (along with some other, newer files) in the Downloads section:

(scroll down to 'Player Handouts')
