Olde-time wargamer here. Minis, tape measure, and protractor come standard on this model.

Ahem. We use Book 2's vector movement system with small ship combat. Including the world templates (especially the world templates). It's the only way to go.
Whelp, there's two people that do it the way it's written in Book 2!

Interesting.

Like you said, though. I don't find it easy to run needing so much room. I default to cork boards, hex maps, and graph paper (sans any protractor, string, tape measure, or compass).

I'm into quick and easy.

But, it is surprising to find some who use Book 2 as written.

Very cool, you Traveller-ites, you.

It never occurred to me to use Book 2 as written. I couldn't imagine how to keep the string from getting messed up.

I use an old SFB hex map with laminated Mayday counters printed from the images off of the FFE website.

I'm for keeping it extremely old school with CT's vector movement and energy points, but my players would probably blow a gasket :D I even started a home brew version that comes close to using vector movement, but segmenting it down to "graph paper" plotting. It's going quite well.

BTW - DGP's "World Builder Handbook" and "Starship Operations Manual" are a Godsend! Absolutely essential stuff for me an my CT campaign plans.

Thanks for the thread link, WJP

Glad you found them. Those two books are absolutely two of the best ever written for Traveller.

I'm a huge DGP fan.

(Now, if DGP were in charge of T5....THAT would be something to be excited about.)

Picked up the reprint of JTAS 1-12 today.

It's FAN-F*CK*NG-TASTIC!!!

I didn't think I'd dig it so much. INCREDIBLE CT resource, and well worth the money.

I've got about half of the JTAS's, and I'm going sell all my single copies and re-purchase the JTAS's in this re-print format.

In fact, I just ordered the other two JTAS books.

Highly recommened.

Agreed. I have all 3 of them, and they are excellent sources for info and ideas. I even love the "Recently Detected" section where they cover, what was at the time, newly announced products. Even though the first issues were published in the year I was born, I started gaming 9 years later and remember seeing some of those products as I was digging through the old and new stuff at the game store.

I'd say the FFE Basic Books 0-8 for $28.00 covers it all, though the LBB's will do it a pinch & they've reprinted at a more reasonable price than you'll find online.
