CT star base generator is ready! 1.0a

sid6.7

SOC-13
for CT i dont really see alot of anything
on starbases for book 1-5 or 7...
i dont have book 6 yet... :(

does CT cover this?

from what i do understand SB's
are planet side for the most part
so would basically look like
and airport with a number landing pads
VS runways....

i do know there is some work on it
for the other travellers, would that really apply?

yes i'm looking at it now thats why i was wondering...
should i make it part of SHEN
since i would follow standard CT rules or
a seperate program?

Sid you might could use the old Eaglestone website starbase construction rules as a starting point. Can't remember the address right now though.

I'd make it a seperate program from SHEN since it is a set of optional rules/ design sequences. There was nothing (IIRC) printed in "canon" about starport construction.

Do remember "Port Authority" in two parts from issues of JTAS; also Paul Sanders / Cargonaut Press offers "Starport Planetfall" by the Keith brothers.

thanks guys!

i was thinking since ground bases are
well done(common)...would everyone like the idea
of orbital bases? it would then SORTA
give you the same "building" flavor
that you get when making a CT ship..?

with that in mind i was trying to think
of "shapes" for orbitals:

cylinder
ring
spindle(like a toy top)
square
tandem cylinders
tandem rings
sphere
skelatal(like our own earths' freedom station)

any others?...

i think i agree it should be sepreate
from SHEN...any name suggestions?

also:

1.
do you want generic bases? or naval and scout
too? i'll probably do generic first anyways...

2.
do you want it to fit on a classic 3 x 5 card
or is bigger better?

3.
how should i define each(if orbital) tonage?
number of berths? besides A,B,C,D,E,X...
something else?

4.
i want it to be pertty RANDOM like SHEN
and FGG...if i do have user input what
should i get from the user? think 1 or 2 items
tops...

5.
when generated would you want it to fit a specific
planet/system or can it be generic enough to fit
any planet/system.

if i've forgetton something say so...

Since there are no official starbase rules, make up your own stuff. There is enough reference material if you watch the movies. There would probably a standard for Imperial bases, but for private it would vary from planet to planet.

close structure (box/retangular)
ring
cylinder
sphere
dispersed (skeletal)
planetoid
buffered planetoid

Generic will be fine at first but see 4.

2.

Ok, 3x5 sounds good

3.

Class A,B or C orbital/ground. Others probably wont have orbital bases. Number of berths for ground; displacement tonnage(?) plus number of directly connecting berths for orbital. (Large ships will probably be just "berthed" in a specified orbital position and a cutter or shuttle is sent to service it.) Give a "standard" berth size of 1000 dtons or 5000 dtons for ground.

4.

User inputs: Class and planet population with check boxes for naval base and/or scout base. I think the larger populations worlds will have bigger starports. I also think that naval bases or scout bases will increase the number of berths of a regular starport by 10% to 50% depending on class (lower level ports C/D/E will have larger increase while A/B will have a smaller increase).

5.

See 4. above.

im about 50% done on the starbase generator
for CT....

was wondering on storage space for
things/equipment that the starbase uses or
needs...like air/water/food/parts....etc...

should it be a percenatage of
commerical cargo space?

terminal(concourse) space?

stateroom space?

berth tonnage?

or a combo of any 2 above?

should it be ton per ton? or a percentage of tons
and what percentage would that be...
