D20 Psi book recommendations for replacing core T20 psi-mechanics?

The title of the thread says it all. I am very happy with T20's rules-set with the exception of the psionics. As they are, I'd probably not include them in a campaign I'd run.

However, I'd love to be able to find a replacement rules-set in the d20 realm. I know Green Ronin did the psychic handbook, but I don't know how applicable it is for sci-fi stuff.

I do know that I really liked Alternity's psionics book, but I'd like to find a real d20 psionics system. Mentioning Alternity may be heresy here, so please forgive my ignorance.

Anyway, if any of you have an suggestions for a d20 psionics rules-set that I can easily sub-in for the current psi-rules without affecting the rest of the game mechanics, please let me know.

I'd definitely recommend that you check out Green Ronin's Psychic Handbook. With a little modification (restricting stuff that doesn't feel Traveller-like), it would work very well.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

I think the coming (soon please
) Traveller's Guidebook has a better treatment of psionics.

<runs off to forum to check>

...yes it does seem to have some psionics stuff but it looks like the same as what the Traveller's Handbook has. There might be more in the Psionic Class part but I don't recall just how much.

And a belated welcome aboard MetalBard :D

Thanks for the welcome, far-trader! I guess I'll have to take a gander at the Psychic's Handbook at some point.

Until then, it'll be harder sci-fi without it. Who knows? I may even like it that way. I've always wanted to do a sci-fi campaign similar to the old Privateer game. Those Aslan are an awful lot like Kilrathi...

I had a look at the Psionicist Pretige Class and Prior History in the coming Traveller's Guidebook and it does add a little to the treatment.

Another thought I just had if you can handle the download is you could grab the free (this week) pdf of the MegaTraveller Player's Manual from DriveThru RPG and have a look at the Psionics rules there.

Go to www.DriveThruRPG.com and sign up then download it. You can find it in the GDW section, or just click this lazy link MT Player's Manual (third down)

I must chime in and add that I have IMTU T20. used Flynn's alternate system very nicely. And the two players who use have talents there found it 'user-friendly'.

Liam,

Thanks for the feedback. That's the first time I've heard of anyone using my suggested T20 Alternate Psionics rules except for myself in my first campaign.

Glad they helped,
Flynn

Hey MetalBard! Remember me? I ran the T20 game for you and your wife at TerpCon fall 04.

I'll second Flynn's recommendation; it's exactly what I am doing. I even acquired extra copies of the psychic's handbook for my players at last GenCon just for this purpose.

i've been just using the psionics rules [with limitations based on what is common verses not common in the traveller universe] from d20 modern and urban arcana. i pretty much only allow the telepath class allowed, and switch up his powers list a bit to include powers from the battle mind and psionic agent [like teleporting naked, haha]

I have been tempted many times just to use sorcery (with the psi stat instead of charisma). It has the advantage of easy translation, and among players already used to DnD much less confusion.

Magic by any other name....

i thought about using the sorcery system, just have the "Spell list" be the psionics lists and do away with power points all together... not sure thats a good idea yet?
