Digest Publishing Groups' A.I. product

Howdy

I am new here and regrefully wasnt a big Traveller Guy after trying out 2300 Ad. I was alway a bigger fan of Twilight 2000 and GDW's Dark Conspiracy products. Sorry to jump in on your forums for such a lame one off question, but can anyone tell me about the unpublished A.I. product

I can remember the ads in Challenge and always planned to buy the game and was about to order it, but figured i would get a discount at my FLGS so waited. Now A.I. has become a sort of gaming Holy Grail for me. It seems the publishers were DGP and Joe Fugate was the guy dreaming it up. Am I right in thinking that? I remember a big emphasis on Biotech and have started searching down books with related ideas. From I.C.E.'s Dark space to Torg's Space Gods. I have even grabbed Harry Harrisons' Eden novels.

I would love any info on the product. Game setting is paramount but even system ideas would be cool. I have heard Mr. Fugate sometimes posts here. If there is any way i could more directly talk to him about this it would be fantastic. I saw a 10 questions post would it be better to have added this question there?

Thanks everyone
jim

There's been some discussion in the past about DGP, and the ultimate fate of the material.

I don't recall A.I. ever being produced, but then again I got out of Traveller after "Flaming Eye" hit the market... mid to early 90s?

Someone else will have more insight.

A.I. was never produced. Too bad - from the ads, it looks like it would have been a fascinating game.

There's a conversation with Joe Fugate on this forum where he spoke about what had been planned for the A.I. game.

Best,
Will

Around the time MegaTraveller Journal 4 was published, DGP offered to sell an early version of the game as an apparent means of getting it field tested (and generating some income I assume).

I have been trying to search the forums with no results i must be doing something wrong. Honestly I would happily pay for any material if Joe Fugate or anyone else has it.

Like i mentioned this has become sort of an obsession for me. Even working on a game world based on my vague memories of the challenger ad. Reworked as more of an odd fantasy with biotech game and worked into the HARP system.

Which reminds me; does Traveller have any information on biotechnology? I buy a lot of random source books on that subject for this game I am working on. Dark Conspiracy delved into this a bit.

Thanks for your help

Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but I seem to recall that the manuscript for A.I. was nearing completion when they lost it in a hard disk crash.

I think the DGP folks got out of the gaming business shortly afterward.

Yeah, that story sounds familiar.

As an addendum I remember Roger Sanger, the owner of the rights to DGP material posted on the old TML looking for people to help him with AI. Whether it was a re-creation of it, or piecing it together from surviving materials I don't know.
