Dresden and Lydia discussion

Anyone have any thoughts/ideas on Dresden and Lydia, the parents of Lucan and Varian.
All that is known there are the dates of birth, and when they died [both in 1108]. Was it an accident, or did one of the kids get rid of them? What if they didn't die in 1108? What was their role in the Imperial Family? What titles did they have? What was their role in the governing of the Imperium? Did they have any role in the Spinward Marches? Or the Solomani Rim? Any thoughts on what they would look like as NPC's?

Any thoughts? GIVE ME YOUR BRAIN.

Hmmm. No ones biting on the topic.

I'll throw in a canon reference and see if that causes any reaction.

Dresden and Lydia are mentioned in MT: Rebellion Sourcebook, page 17.

Same page states Dresden is a Duke; Lydia is a Princess. OK.

That solves one question; what about the others.

Given that the house of Alkhalikoi has been in power for the entire post Civil-War period there are likely to be many cadet branches of the family. Since Varian and Lucan were close to the Throne, both physically and in inheritance it is likely that they were nephews of Strephon, which would mean that either their mother was his sister or their father was his brother. Since we do not know the sibling list for Strephon, or the children of Paulo III we will have to imagine a link. Since the Imperium tends towards Patrilinear and Androcentric progression of power and inheritance, I would Imagine that Varian and Lucan’s Father was Strephon’s Brother, and had Strephon not made it to his majority, then Dresden would have been Emperor!
However since Lydia is listed as a Princess that means she is the one from the Imperial Household, and likely is Strephon’s sister. Perhaps Dresden holds a Dukedom because he is the “Imperial Consort” and therefore holds the title due to position, not inheritance.
This means she would have likely been trained for statecraft and leadership “just in case” The fact that she and her husband died in 1108 paved the way for Dulinor to trust that he would have a straight shot at the Throne, since Lydia by rights could have stepped up and taken over the Iridium throne upon notice of her brothers death. I doubt that Dulinor started that early in his plans, BUT, perhaps the death of Lydia, say in a tragic sporting accident with her husband, got Dulinor to thinking about the line of succession. Perhaps he never really liked Prince Varian or Prince Lucan or Grand Princess Ciencia Iphegenia and decided he needed to do “something.” And thus is born the shot heard ‘round the Empire

Hmm. The accident that got the wheels in Dulinors head spinning. Interesting.

Also, if you go down the Lucan track, and he offed the parents, Dulinor would be thinking the same way, whether or not he knew what Lucan was doing.
