General Dumarest in 2018!

Is this old news?

Dumarest is going to be a TV series in 2018. The first season going to be presented in 10 episodes and will be based on the first five books. I'm guessing each book will get two episodes. The first episode is titled, The Winds of Gath.

Here's the article about it from Screen Daily.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but the producer is the guy who produced....Hawk The Slayer!

The Winds of Gath can indeed be done with a modest budget, whereas the others would definitely require a more substantial amount of capital to pull off. I'd catch the pilot, but I'm not sure if this will be anything but sad, sad straight-to-DVD offal down in the artistic trashcompactor along with the works of Uwe Boll. However, if it's done in an intentionally retro-70s kitschy vibe it may work.

It was one of the first D&Dish films I saw when I was a kid, so addicted to D&D.

Then....The Sword & The Sorcerer came along....

I saw it in the theaters! Couldn't even recognize Bull (Night Court).

Saw Dragonslayer, too (earlier, of course).

As much as we enjoyed D&D, we left D&D behind as soon as Santa brought Traveller.

Wish my group would do that. They LOVE D&D more than any other game.

It's always a chore for me to get them to play something else. When I do, we have a grand time. And, we've played lots of Traveller and Star Wars and some other games. But, it's never a chore to bring out the D&D. Everybody is all ready to game. No convincing needed.

I've haven't played a good session of FASA Star Trek since the few missions I ran when the game came out. I'd love to play that again.

I'm not sure the producer's credits of Hawk The Slayer are terribly inspiring. It was pretty terrible.

It was also 35 years ago, so he may have learned a few things since then. :-)

He's directed episodes of The Bill, Heartbeat, been second unit director on a couple of Pink Panther movies, been 1st AD to Ridley Scott.

Here's hoping.

Hawk the Slayer was AMAZING (says the 12 yr old version of me). I’d love to watch it again now.

Also in the last 35 years the tools and tech have come a very long way and may allow a low budget production to achieve some big budget value.

I thought it merely amusing in my teens; at 30 I found it intolerably bad.

I'm sure if I saw it again I'd agree. Perhaps it's charm was more about staying up late to watch it on network TV after the 11pm news. But the imagery and boyhood fun of it still lingers.

Many times, you can't revisit it and keep the warm fuzzies intact.

In the least, it will be interesting to see how they depict the affinity twin which is a major thread running through the novels.
The Cyclan are one of the most chillingly sinister villains in Sci-Fi lit, and I'd also love to see what they look like.

I've long wondered for a proper treatment of Lord Dunsany's "The King of Elfland's Daughter," William Morris' "The Well at the World's End" or ER Eddison's "The Worm Orobouros."
