E/, K/, P/, T/ skills

R_Kane

SOC-12
Not too long ago I saw a post that summarized what each of these skills represented and how having (for ex) E/Dance, K/Dance & P/Dance represented different skills.

But now I can't find it. I was hoping someone could point me to this thread/post, or maybe who posted it so I can do a search

Thanks,
-Roger

Off the top of my head, E/Dance would be generally dancing to entertain others, probably as part of a troupe - would probably be the sort of 'basic dance' that anyone who could move to music would have.

K/Dance would probably be more theoretical knowledge of all the various forms of dance, how they evolved, when they're used, and so on. Doesn't necessarily imply that you know how to dance yourself though.

P/Dance would probably be more specialised than E/Dance, maybe allowing you to learn solo dancing skills or specific sorts of dance. Ballet or Flamenco dancers might have this, for instance, as would those who dance in a ritual.

That's my guess anyway.

FWIW Here's my take on it:

  • E/Dance: The Juggies from The Man Show

  • K/Dance: A dance historian/teacher</font>
  • P/Dance: A Las Vegas show coordinator</font>
  • T/Dance: A costume/stage designer</font>

Not exactly what you want, but...

The D+D faq at

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/er/er20021018a

on page 14 (bottom of right column)has a section on the differences
between knowledge, profession, and craft (which corresponds to T20's
technical skill).

After reading that, I'd put the T20 skills like this:

E/Dance: Covers formal dancing (ex: ballroom), informal dancing (ex:
Disco), and performance dancing (ex: ballet, Interpretive Dance).
This is the skill used to actually perform the action of dancing
(whatever kind it may be) and should probably be modified by dex or
cha.

K/Dance: Covers knowledge of particluar dance techniques (ex: 17th
century formal dance), their origins, customs, and peculiarities, but
not the actual action of dancing. A good use for this skill would be
recognizing a particular dance step.

T/Dance: non-existant

P/Dance: non-existant, though there might be P/Choreographer

If you play d20 of any sort, it helps to have at least a passing
familiarity with the above faq document (though you can ignore the
inapplicable sections, like magic).

(I'm cross-posting this to the T20 Yahoo! group)

Hope this all helps answer your question!

Actually, there would be a P/dance IMTU. This would be the skill used for a dance instructor/choreographer. Whether the person was working on Broadway or for the Moscow Ballet, choreographing music videos or sideline routines for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, or running a local dance facility where little girls go to learn the rudiments of ballet and tap.

I agree, there should be a skill that does those things. I think that calling it P/Choreographer
is more consistant with naming conventions between skills (the D+D faq I mentioned above uses C/stonemason vs. P/Architect as an example)in the other d20 books, and is less confusing.

However, there is something to be said for being able to say, "My character has every dance skill possible."

As long as people now understand the difference between P/, K/, T/, and E/ skills now, it doesn't really matter what the specific skills are named.
