Equipment Traveller's Aide ??

Was wondering if there might be plans for an expanded equipment resource?

Traveller (all forms) has always had a pretty sparse list in the main books. However, as a whole (with all supplemental materials) it gets better.
Would be SWEET to have it in a TA.

The Consolidated List by PVernon in 'Ship's Locker' is great, and I've been awed by some of the great stuff designed by other Citizens too.

In any case, I'm including it in the Holiday Wish-List. :D

Want to make $250 and make a contribution to the Traveller community? Put together a proposal for a Traveller's Aide supplement, and send it in to Martin. If your pitch is good, I think you've got a winner of an idea here.

Good luck,
Flynn

Actually began considering that since I made the post.
I figured the responses would fall into:

A) "Yeah that would be great"

and

B) "Well, get on it!"

I had started a small list of supplemental material (mostly grabbed from PVernon's list) for what I thought my group could really use.
Who knows.
If the list grows big enough....

I think it'd be a worthwhile goal, assuming that you don't cross the copyright line for items that aren't allowable. There's always a need for a more complete equipment list.

Best of luck,
Flynn

Copyright is god.
And certainly a big consideration for say..someone's FGMP design.
Or other traveller-specific items.

Most of the 'missing' things I'm thinking of though, are commonplace and shouldn't open that can.
Examples:
Tactical load-bearing vest.
Various survival items.
Ration Bar, 5CR, tastes like funky underwear...
Flashlight/hand-lamp (different styles/power sources)
Empty weapon magazines.
Countless tool kits.
Clothing/Outfits.
Weapon cleaning kits.
Laptop/PDA.
Forklift/container mover for your free trader.
Etc.....

I agree. The cool thing is that copyright protects the words, not the concept, IIRC. Besides, I'm sure QLI has access to a large amount of Traveller items just due to their licensing agreement. I'm pretty sure the DGP stuff is out, but would have to ask about GT, as I don't know the details of either GT's or QLI's arrangements with Marc Miller.

But I agree, there's enough generic stuff to fill a book and then some...

Enjoy,
Flynn

Yep, done that.

I got response letter (A)

Very cool, Zanrain! I can't wait to see what you'll put together. Let us know if you need any information from "approved" resources, but the consolidated equipment list is a great place to start.

Best of luck,

One concept you might want for high-tech apparel is the concept of the smart fabric or in a related vein , wearable computing. This could manifest in many ways. Someone did a good article on it at Traveller Central (I think). But they hardly exhausted all of the ideas. TL-15 ought to show up (or even TL-12) in many odd little ubiqutous aspects of daily life, not just in packing a computer with a brain the size of a planet or a portable FGMP that can melt one.

A lot of these pieces of equipment (survival equipment, navigation equipment, rugged/outdoor wear, formal wear, uniforms, casual wear, computer and A/V equipment, cameras, phones, converged devices featuring things like phone, watch, computer, PDA, wireless modem, etc...) could certainly do a lot to fill out a bit of a vision of what the average TL-12 person wears....

....because I'm sure it isn't TL-6 Levis. Unless maybe he or she is an Authentic disciple.
