Favorite Deckplan Style

Deckplans. I like uncluttered: black for features and hull shape, light blue grid lines on white. I do not want other distractions of color, and I am not interested in the distraction of room detail. I do not want it to be something for myself or the players to admire, because I am jealous of the time we have available for gaming.

I do want to see visual cues for openings (for example, iris valves, hatches, sliding doors). I do want to see visual cues for operational notes (for example, dotted curves to indicate folding wings). I do like "Mayday"-style silhouette figures placed alongside the deckplan to convey scale. A running medic. A crouching Vargr. Etc.

Room Detail. If you give me a one-page handout of a room, or a section of a ship for relatively nontactical purposes, then it needs detail so I can get the feel the space. Color would be okay in this case.

My preference is kind of odd... the AHL plans are just about the best, IMO, that have been released.

I like the minimalist nature of the plans themselves, and the use of color to delineate uses. I can, with just a glance, tell what a given room is for.

I don't mind bunks being shown, either, nor tables, chairs, and consoles - but for crying out loud, don't scatter food on the tables and books on the beds.

The Old FASA Star Trek plans were often just a bit busy, but were clear enough.

Hi,

I agree that the Azhanti High Lightning stuff was very good, for the reasons that you mention. As for furniture I too am ok without it, though at times I do kind of like to be able to see just how crowded some spaces may actually be and how difficult it may be to move through them etc.
