Fixing Book2/High Guard designs

As much as I love HGS, it doesn't provide output easily used for errata (which would allow for reproducing a complete design including crew, etc). Andrea is working on this, but I've got some deadlines ahead...

So, I'm asking for folks who might have spreadsheets and similar devices to pitch them my way...

Because I keep beating my head against this issue...

I've got three spreadsheets in the works which I hope to complete testing soon.

I am currently testing a spreadsheet using Book 2 1981 Starships design and construction. The ship's data sheet combines Book 5 High Guard 2 1981 rules for calculating agility rating, batteries, and the layout for the top four lines of the USP on LBB5 page 52.

My second spreadsheet combines the jump drive, maneuver drive, power plant and fuel formulas from Book 2 per Book 5 page 22.

The third spreadsheet follows Book 5 High Guard 2 design and construction.

Sorry honey, moving house with a certain palaeontologist from Chicago :)

I've not had any problem with the HGS output routine. The text export function seems to work fine for me. Am I missing something? Can I help with something?

Howdy Carlobrand,

I've not had any problem with the HGS output routine. The text export function seems to work fine for me. Am I missing something? Can I help with something?

DonM is using a modified format in the Consolidated CT Errata from the layout shown on Book 5 HG2 which is what AndreaV's HGS application exports.

I just sent you a PDF I created for the LBB2 Mercenary Cruiser in the data format found in the Consolidated CT errata. On 9/27 I created a PDF of the worksheet of the Mercenary Cruiser to check my work since I’m not matching the crew, MCr, or cargo capacity.

The biggest issue I have found is that there remain too many minor differences in output formats for individuals to recreate a specific design reliably. Tom's attempts to use the errata reliably are a symptom of the problem.

Andrea and I have discussed this at length, and she is looking into it.

Having seen several discussions on designs, two of the biggest issues I've seen are, pretty much in order: errata and interpretation. Errata because people working a design by hand will try to test their understanding by trying to match a canon design without realizing it's got errors - which is something you're working to fix. Interpretation because there are minor points of interpretation that aren't clearly delineated in rules that trip people up, two of the more common ones being whether and when to include the architect's fee and whether to add the cost of vehicles.

(The answers being:
1. not unless you're buying a one-of-a-kind or first-of-a-kind ship, and
2. yes.)

Evening all,

Carlobrand has gotten back to me after reviewing my work for the mercenary cruiser on LBB2 1981 page 20. I'm updating my LBB2 Mercenary Cruiser errata topic with the items he found and what I have worked out based on those findings.

Briefly I missed the air/raft and he discovered that to get the listed MCr for LBB2's mercenary cruiser is to add a fuel module and an open module, which can be found in Adventure 7.

Unfortunately, adding the two cutter modules dropped the cargo capacity down to 40 tons. In order to get a cargo capacity of 80 tons which includes the two cutter modules the solution appears to be modifying the fuel tankage.

I sent you an update. Your spreadsheet subtracts the volume of the ATVs, but they're inside the modules, which are already subtracted. Correct cargo should be 60 dTons. I cannot reach 80; I believe it to be an error.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you I had a doctors appointment and then my Mom's computer got a virus, which I'm still trying to kill.

Thank you for both your email and the update here on the forum.

Hello all,

I completed running the seven, hopefully I counted them right, standard ship designs in CT Book 2 Starships 1981 through my CT Book 2 Starships 1981 spreadsheet. The spreadsheet included a tab that, another one of my hopefully correct, duplicated the ship data output used In the Consolidated CT Errata.

Once each ship was completed I saved the ship data output as a PDF, which I emailed to Carlobrand and Donald McKinney to verify that my work actually matched the ship details from CT Book 2 1981 and the Consolidated CT Errata.

If my work pans out the next update to the Consolidated CT Errata may include stuff I sent to Donald McKinney.
