For the Merc campaigners...

Have read a great book with a lot of resources that can be used for a Merc/Army/dirt-side campaign.

It's called "Immediate Action", by Andy McNab. Not only a darn good read, but gives good insight into spec-ops type processes.

And there's a great glossary of SAS/Army terms in the back. :D

I have also been told it's available in the US (thanks Jame ;) )

I've enjoyed and found game inspiration Ser McNabb's fictional stuff, too. Based on the down-and-dirty escapades of a former SAS trooper relegated to mostly extra-legal dirty work for the British Government.

Chris Ryan is the other member of the Bravo Two Zero patrol who writes fiction and his is pretty readable too. His biography is interleaved with his account of his E&E in Iraq (two weeks walk to the Syrian border on two biscuits and four litres of water) and covers similar escapades to McNabb.

I'd offer to help anyone interested buy copies, but I don't know if it's (a.) legal/ethical or (b.) really workable. But McNab has several other books out, too, including Tango Two Zero.

Another good book is Cornelius Ryan's "A Bridge Too Far," which I know some others here already know about.

Ah ys, Nick 'Punchbag' Stone - who gets beaten up in every story at least once. Why he doesn't just become a grocer or something I don't know...

But yep, good modern ops books.

I just finished "Immediate Action" and "Bravo Two Zero" - good reads both. Especially "Bravo Two Zero."

One question, though - what does "minging" mean?!?

If you've read either of these two, then the context used there. But if there are several, please, tell me!
