Absent Friend
Frank Kelly Freas, long time SF artsist and 11 hugo winner, passed away on the 3rd of this month. To many of the younger fans he is not so well known as while he worked to the end, he was much lower in profile in the last few years; but to us oldsters he was one of the grand old men.
Kelly died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes.
He was well known to assist and advise younger artists, and I am honored to say that he was directly responsible for me being in the buisness today- it was his encouragement that prompted me to pursue the carreer.He urged many others along, and influenced many of my generation. He was a kind and witty man, and was always accessible to fans and artists alike, He was, in many ways, a complete human being.
The SF art community is a small one, and he will be sorely missed.
