fugatives in jump space

not sure if this one has been done before but just how feasible is it to run from imperial authority by jumping?

can a ship stay ahead of an arrest warrent which is put out on it?

x-boats travel faster than jump ships as a rule but the volume which the ship could be in and the number of places where a fugative may have gone increase very significantly with the distance from the place they are running from.

what do you think?

Oh definitely, at least for a while. Eventually all Imperial space will get the warrants, but it will take a long time. Remember the X-Boat network only really connects major worlds and systems together, it takes much longer for the word to get to the smaller systems or those off the beaten track. And guess which systems a fugitive is likely to go to.

Also remember that if the fugitive gets onto a world there isn't much Imperial authorities can do to get him back off it as they don't have jurisdiction. Technically.

yeah, and another planet can make a warrant on someone but the someone can be protected because the distance and/or the political attitude.

example harry are researched for forgery in planet x by communist land, and he goes in a planet not balkanized and who dont like communist. what they are going to make of harry, say him "au revoir et bonne chance" and make him get the first vessel which goes off planet, but give him to the communist no surely not.

Unless they are wanted for a crime against Imperial Law and it is an Imperial Member World (or client state I bet). In this case, IIRC the Imperial Ministry of Justice DOES have jurisdiction and the local government is expected to cooperate in apprehending the criminal.

If the crime was committed was against an member world's laws I'd say you've got a good point though. Unless the world that issued the warrant has a fair amount of pull with the world that the criminal went to, there may not be much that can be done about it...other than hiring a handful of PCs to go there and drag him out. :D

It all depends on whose law you broke, how serious the crime is and who the fugative pissed off. If it is an Imperial Crime the MOJ will come after you no matter where inside the borders you are and will be able to catch up with you, depending on the speed of your ship, generally within 3 months. Local laws, depending on the crime, and how often you have done similar things, may cause the same problem or no problems at all. Now if you get the Navy/Marines mad at you, well that means you are quite likely to go down in as little as 2 months, within 2 months any planet with a Naval base you might stop at will be looking for you. (And that is if you have a very fast ship, normally quite a bit less.) ANy Starport with a Marine contingent, (IE virtually all Imperial ports) will be looking for you in about the same time the MOJ will be. If you really ticked off the Marines or the Navy you are unlikely to even be able to hide on independent or even enemy worlds outside the Imperium for long.

Your best bet to escape Imperial Justice is to take a quick two or three jumps, and then go to ground, for a few years, while you build a new identity and wait for the heat to die down. Of course most of the planets where you might want to hide will be checked fairly high on the list.

IMTU that boils down to, do not violate the Rules of War, do not frag with the Port Authority, do not get identified as a Pirate. Those will get you into lots of trouble very fast. Less serious infractions, will get you in trouble but not nearly as much.

If you really want to get into major trouble use a Detached Scout Ship, armed with Nukes, to fire on a highport and conduct acts of piracy. Then you have the Port Authority, the MOJ, the Navy and the IISS all looking for you.

IMO, if MoJ is looking for you, then the Imperial military and Scouts will also be notified, eventually, to keep an eye out for you. I don't think it's a matter of who you torque off, they'll all eventually be on the lookout for you.

^ And if the MOJ doesn't get you, some bounty hunter will! In addition, with multiple layers of law enforcement (police, sheriffs, rangers, provincials, federal, planetary, etc.), it's difficult not to run into someone with a little ambition and a good memory!

You might be able to leg it somewhere non-Imperial.
Maybe in the Zhodani Consulate or the Solomani Confederation you could lay low. Of course theres nothing to stop them handing you over in return for something.

Won't save you from Bounty Hunters or Intelligence Services. Though it might keep "Official Action" off your back, but unofficial action? That Diplomat, might be a "Cultural Attache."

I agree. However it is the speed with which they will become involved. After all the Local Police don't like going to the FBI and vice versa. The DEA, the FBI and the ATF all have their own agendas, turf, etc. I can see the Imperium having similar problems. Tick the Navy off directly and they might just put your information into fleet dispatches on their Jump-6 routes. (Unless you are careful I give you a month before a Platoon of Marines or a Cruiser shows up and ruins your day.)
