Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
The little "smilies" in the posts are called Instant Graemlins here*. You can find them corraled to the left of the "full reply form". Just type what you want then click on the one(s) you want as you need them. Depending on your browser they can be inserted at the cursor or else end up at the bottom of your current draft post. There is a limit to how many you can have in one post (the number escapes me now) but no worry, if you go over you'll get a warning when you go to preview or add your post.
* well at least in their little area, I usually just call them smilies, I guess some know them as emoticons
I've always wondered about the name "Graemlins." I've heard people call them emoticons before, or smilies, but never graemlins. Yet several of the messageboards I visit call them graemlins. Maybe they all use the same software package.

Linking up to an earlier fork in the thread, there were a series of Traveller novels by gentleman named Swycaffer (I believe his first name was Jeffery) back in the 80s. However, I understand these did not take place in the 3I setting.
"Exonidas Spaceport", an excellent article detailing the facility of the same name, was featured in an issue of _The Dragon_ around that time, and was penned by Mr. Swycaffer and set in his universe.
There is something of a strong firefly following on COTI including several designs. I put this one together and hope it helps. I've also linked to several deckplans.
