Help! I need deckplans for a yacht

DElrick

SOC-12
Hi guys,

I'm running a game at Dragonmeet on Saturday 13th and I need deckplans for a yacht. Does anybody know where I can get hold of some?

Cheers

David

I have some plans for a yacht on my website. They are for my Slipstream class yacht. (This is TL11) designed using FFS1. Either follow the links via my Banners sector area or use the What's New button which has a direct link.

Find my site at

Peter Vernon is working on a great set of yacht deckplans based on the Serpent Class Scout layout (see http://www.sff.net/people/kitsune/traveller/peter/starships.html for the Scout, Extended Scout, and Free Trader versions).

Email him and ask if he'll send you a copy of them -- it's a work in progress, so he hasn't posted them yet, but they are VERY nice.

You can email him at pvernon_at_trilobyte.net (replace _at_ with the usual glyph).

Thanks everybody for your suggestions and the links. I wonder if the yacht is the only book 2 standard design that has never been deckplanned?

Anyway, I've emailed Peter as Tanuki suggested. In addition, one of my players found some old FASA deckplans at a car boot sale the other weekend and he thinks there is a yacht in there, so I may be OK anyway.

Thanks again everybody.

Cheers

David

Well now David has the plans.... I'm looking forward to causing havoc on Saturday :)

Ummm.... best go roll up a character.

You're going to cause havoc? In my game? As if I need the help... ;)

The Yacht has been done, as the table I did (already refered to above) shows, but not to any complete level of detail by GDW. Part of the problem is that blasted 30-ton Ship's Boat and the ATV. Squeezing those into a 200-ton hull (even with 20% slop) is not easy to make look non-goofy...

Dave,
Now that the convention is over, how did the adventure go? How did the deck plan work in action?

I should have the deck plan up by the end of the week on my web site.

I can only speak from a player's point of view, but we had a really good time and the plans worked really well.

The premise was that we were recovering the yacht on behalf of it's owner following an attack from a Vargr coursair and it's abandonment by it's crew. The power plant was out, which meant no gravity, no life support and manual opening of iris valves. We had a portable generator but it could only power one section of the craft at a time.

The compartmentalised nature of the design made it easy for us to search the ship a section at a time whilst restricting how far we could go without having to re-patch the generator. Working in tight spaces, in zero-g, in vacc suits definitely heightened the tension on occassion.

I have to complement you on the quality of the plans, they were absolutely first rate. I will be checking out your other plans for use in a future game I have planned.

Thank you for making the yacht plans available to Dave, it was really appreciated.

The deckplans were a great success. Thanks for letting me have them in advance.

We worked primarily from A4 prints of each deck that the players could write on if they wanted, and we only went up to the A3 prints and 15mm figures once when the exact locations of each character became an issue. These gave the players something to focus on and seemed to help them visualise their situation more clearly (stuck in deep space repairing a derelict).

The deckplans are beautiful (I always liked the elegant lines of the Serpent class scout though), but not too cluttered to make them difficult to print or copy.

Once again, thanks for your help (and thanks to everyone else who suggested other designs).

Cheers

David
