Help Locating POD CE Variant Closest to '77 CT

2nd vote for the 109 page Cepheus Light rules.
Greetings Throrll,

I enjoy Stellagama products, and Cepheus Light is a homebrew ruleset I appreciate and often use to inspire my gaming table (I’ve even reached out to Omer to get a collection of errata for my printed Stellagama products in a separate thread/DM). However, it will not replace CT’77 for several reasons.

This doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate Omer and Josh for their work and contributions to CE, but they aren’t the best fit for the project I have in mind.

There are too many modifications to the CT’77 rules for this product (CL) to fit the bill for this project. While Cepheus Light (CL) does have less cruft than Cepheus Deluxe, CL still has more complexity/unnecessary rules, IMHO, and takes the user/reader down a modern RPG design path, whereas CT’77, being over 40 years old and firmly rooted in a completely different design ethos, does not.

Further explanation would be well beyond the scope of this thread.

I guess I’d just strip off the Characteristics and conflict mechanics and go.
Can I ask what your setting and tropes are?

One of the things aqbout CE is that you can re-write 77 using it :)

Yes, I have. This version of CE homebrew (Zozer's Retro Rules) has been mentioned many times in this thread. I have performed my own search for reviews on this product, and based in part on Paul’s website, various reviews, and product descriptions found around the web, I have decided to purchase this in paperback from Lulu as soon as funds (and perhaps a discount code) permit.

Cheers!

I think Wikipedia provides the best answer to your questions concerning my homebrew campaign inspirations regarding settings, tropes, and lore:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cthulhu Mythos is a mythopoeia and a shared fictional universe, originating in the works of American horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. The term was coined by August Derleth, a contemporary correspondent and protégé of Lovecraft, to identify the settings, tropes, and lore that were employed by Lovecraft and his literary successors. The name "Cthulhu" derives from the central creature in Lovecraft's seminal short story "The Call of Cthulhu", first published in the pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1928.

In which case I can recommend A Quick Stop in Weird Space. Not exactly Mythos but Mythos adjacent :)
IDK, Takei. The fact that it comes with a warning label and has no reviews may be telling. I will have to do some more digging on that one.

However, I did just come across this…Chthonian Stars Core Setting for Traveller from WildFire on DTRPG. It's for Mongoose Traveller, but I could probably convert it to CT’77. We’ll see.

Thanks for your recommendations.

I own and have used Chthonian Stars. Bought it and used MT1e to run it. It lacks a core rule set, it does say it needs "Traveller" to play. But it would be super easy to convert it over to CT or to one of the Cepheus rule sets. No matter how you go, it will require some tweaks. But it is quite the fun background/setting.

For those who do not know about it:
