I've been looking at this chart more (actually, it's several charts crammed into two magazine pages, in small type).Originally posted by Supplement Four:
White Dwarf #28 has the most extensive hit location chart(s) ... for Traveller
It is interesting. But, I think it's too detailed for my tastes.
First you roll 2D for General Hit Location.

10 R. Leg
11 L. Leg
12 R. Arm</pre>[/QUOTE]If the victim is as Close or Short range and unable to retaliate, the attack can pick his hit location instead of rolling it.
Any kind of ranged weapon can be aimed. A -3DM is used on the attack roll, and if the attack is successful, the attacker can pick the general location but still has to roll the specific location.
Next, the chart describes 10 different weapon types, stating that "in addition to doing different amounts of damage, weapons also do different types of damage."
Bullet, Energy, Pellet, Blade, Thrusting, Blunt, Hands, Teeth, Claws, Explosives.
And, some weapons qualify for more than one type.
So...
Once a hit occurs, you roll 2D on the chart above for general location. Then, you roll 1D for the specific location.
Wounds are adjusted by crossreferencing weapon type with the specific hit location on the damage multiplier table.
And, a check is made to see if any additional damage occurs (like a broken bone on top of the wound).
Whew!
And, most of the specific hit locations also require rolls. For example, if you roll a 12 on the General Location chart, this means you hit the R. Arm.
Then, you roll on the Hand specific location chart. If you roll a 1, you've hit the R. Hand.
Then, you check to see if you did additional damage by weapon type.
Then, you would roll to see if the hand is broken.
And, if the hand's not broken, you roll yet again to see if the wrist is broken.
Geezz!
Yeah. It's an interesting chart, but I think it's too involved for my tastes.
Guess what...if you succeed in breaking a bone, this leads you to yet more rolling.
Nope, I think I'll stick with the no-roll method at the beginning of this thread.
